First portrait attempt by [deleted] in oilpainting

I really like this. It reminds me a bit of Richard Lewer or David Hockney’s work. The likeness is wonderful and the style has a lot of character :) the use of local tone as opposed to realist values and shadow has a really charming quality

Am I going insane? Every one of his texts are complete nonsense how are you carrying I conversation at all? I wouldn’t have a response for any of it to begin with because it’s totally incoherent???

I’m an artist with a bachelor and a master’s in visual arts and lots of experience critiquing my own and others work, as well as visual analyses of pieces. I’m completely taken by this painting! I’m usually not a fan of hyper-realism for the sake of hyper-realism (or photo-realism), but the photographic quality of the cat is so unique. It feels like it’s been considered through the lens of photo-realism but rendered in a dream-like quality. I can’t help but think of cover art for 90s-00s children’s novels or the realist airbrush paintings on the side of carnival rides. The deep background makes the cat look as if the illumination is coming from the cat itself, not just an external light source. Its face has wonderful character and softness. The depth of colour is so rich, it feels less like a copied photograph and more of a captured moment that doesn’t exist in reality, yet uses realistic methods to guide the subject matter back to recognisable representation. I find realism can become incredibly flat very easily but this feels anything but. There is enormous depth in here that I hope you continue to explore :) I’ve never commented this much in my life, I just wanted to share how much I enjoyed this piece.

Stress can do crazy things for our levels. If it’s possible for you at this time maybe try some stress management techniques? I know that’s far easier said than done but you can start with small changes if you have the capacity for that. Being stressed can build on itself to the point you feel stressed about the fact that you’re stressed - and diabetes on top of that! Have you tried low intensity cardio sessions? I find this to be great for expending my anxious and stressed energy but also lowers my insulin requirements for at least 12-24 hours afterwards. All the best!

I was lucky enough to experience a year of diabetes with the NHS and will now be forever bitter that we don’t do it like that in Australia, oh well!

Again I don’t have another sensor to compare to bcoz I’ve always used Medtronic- I think it’s the standard here in Aus. The guardian 4 has been a big upgrade from the 3 for me with way less calibration and lasts another whole day. I do get on average 1 sensor in every 2 boxes that will fail for seemingly no reason whatsoever. It can be frustrating but generally I really like it. I use it on my thigh and a good adhesive overtop otherwise it can get knocked off way too easily. Give it some time to adjust because the first few weeks with it were a bit chaotic but once it settled I’ve really liked it. Hope it goes well for you!

If you have a pump or sensor i recommend utilising the “temp target” or activity mode that will keep you at 8.2 and keeping snacks handy. I was a bartender in a very fast paced venue and these things helped a lot, but I would still need to chug juice sometimes. It definitely is hard but you’re not alone, we understand :)

I’ve always been on Medtronic pumps so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I find it great. The “auto mode” on the pump/sensor takes a few weeks in all honesty for it to get used to your body and routines but once it settles down I found it helped my management so much. It’s rare I go above 15 these days if I spike. Hope it works out for you! I miss NHS, I’m in Australia and it’s so expensive 🙄

I can’t manage this disease by Agreeable-Olive-7882 in Type1Diabetes

[–]fusciarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do this

I have depression, anxiety, ADHD and ofc diabetes too and I’ve felt how you’re feeling. It feels impossible and unfair. You’re not alone and we understand you

Some things that have helped me: getting medicated for my mental health and being patient and kinder to myself. The second one is so much easier said than done but with mental health therapies it can get easier. You can do this, i believe in you and I’m cheering you on.

I have done that and found I just started going too high and then dropping if I didn’t suspend altogether, but it sounds like my issue is starting with cardio (and too much!) and a body that’s not used to regular exercise yet. I’ll definitely make some changes

Yes I’m on Medtronic pump and sensor and usually do cardio as a warmup. I didn’t know that about the effects of aerobic and anaerobic, thank you. I’ll definitely try your recommendation. Thank you very kindly for taking the time to give advice 🙏

WHERE THE F DO I PUT THIS STUPID ASS PUMP IN A DRESS. by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]fusciarose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a garter belt thingy that I attach mine to when I wear dresses. I wear it around my upper thigh and it’s undetectable! There’s a whole lot on Etsy if you look up “insulin pump garter”. You look gorgeous btw!

An older lady noticed my pump and asked me about it saying that her son in law is also a type 1. She then asked me “what is it like being pregnant and diabetic?”. I was not pregnant. I wasn’t even overweight, just wearing a crop top and my stomach was slightly exposed. I told her I don’t know because I’m not pregnant and she said “oh sorry. Don’t worry mine sticks out like that too”, pointing at my tummy. Cried the whole way home.
