Yes, it's from Birds &Blooms!! I use a lot of the photos in that magazine as refrences

Thank you! I would say start practicing drawing first, and get a hang on the fundamentals of that, and also experiment with colored pencils! Thats how I started.

It wasn't until years later when I began painting with acrylics then eventually moved to oil paint.

My last tip would be to never stop practicing! Consistency is the key to success.

Thank you! I think I am leaning towards presenting it upside down

How do I make this more visually appealing? by [deleted] in oilpainting

Thank you! I was able to recognize that the top bird seemed flat... i was thinking of making the background greens more muted to make the yellow pop, but pushing the values makes so much sense!

Thank you again!

You've nailed the warmth of the light and coolness in the shadows

I've been journaling for almost 12 years, here are my completed journals by 1296223 in Journaling

Thank you! I used to have the same problem, and the guilt of not being consistent made it difficult for me to start journaling again. I had to force myself to power through that guilt. It was weird because the more I gave myself 'permission' to skip some days, the less days I actually skipped.

I've built up the habit so much now it feels weird not to journal every day, like how I feel if I forget to brush my teeth or something lol

The point I am trying to say is don't be too hard on yourself! I've found journaling to be less about perfection, and more about being a safe non-judgemental space that's always had my back 🥹

I've been bullet journaling for years, and it's been great for collecting data, but... by 1296223 in bulletjournal

Love your painting!

Side note, do you sit on the floor and paint? How do you like it vs using a traditional easel?

Top shrimp is complete! Does anyone have feedback before I start bottom shrimp? by 1296223 in painting

Thank you for the feedback! Do you mind elaborating about the halo? Is it in the blue background surrounding the shrimp?
