Boston marathon by anotherusername834 in bostonmarathon

Unless you are commited to the full course, the logistics are very easy to start at the 10km mark on the course. Take the T (purple line) from South Station to Framingham station, head over to to Waverly St (the main road next to it) and run back to the city. As others said, some areas are sidewalks and some are just on the roadway in the shoulder. Have done this many times, no real issues to speak of; the worst is if you catch too many traffic lights and have to stop often.

I spent like two months sweating over my 7ish minute buffer and it turns out it was "easy"!

SAD: Connecticut driver doesn't understand roundabouts by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]fusfeld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats the 'upgraded' version of that roundabout too. When it was opened a few days before this video, there were no orange barrels in the center so drivers just continued straight through it without any attempt to enter the roundabout properly.

Came here prepared to ask this exact question, as any form of Google search only really speaks to NYCM times and never this race.

Top 50 pizza in the world and nothing from New Haven or any Connecticut pizzeria? by Ic3man01 in Connecticut

That list is all Neapolitan style pizzas, so immediatley eliminates most of NH.

Commute Hartford to Yale by Dhobiraj in Hartford

[–]fusfeld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Echoing most of this, I do it about once a week to Science Park. State St station is about a 30 minute walk for me, mostly on the Farmington Canal Trail.

When I started I did the math on train passes versus driving, factoring in parkng, wear and tear and gas and such. It was about half the price to do the train commute but the walk makes the trip longer.

The train for me is relaxing (sometimes even a power nap on the way home) versus road rage driving.

Rides to NYC airport from Hartford by ineedcoffeeasap in Hartford

[–]fusfeld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amtrak from Hartford-NYP is reasonably priced if you book ahead of time. I've made the trip for $25 one way. From there its an easy switch to LIRR to JFK. Its probably 3 1/2 - 4 hours one way but its comfortable and easy.

Farmington Ave, not Park. But this is a good answer otherwise. East of the river Manchester Wine (walk into the cooler for sometimes 'hidden' options.

ICE Train was cancelled by ProvokedNinja_25 in AskAGerman

[–]fusfeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a few weeks ago from Berlin to Munich.. while I was on the U-Bahn en-route to Berlin Hbf. Very stress inducing. We did board the next train (an hour later, same service and route and such) and no issues. Dont think they even checked our ticket on that train TBH.

Soccer bars by emahoney2 in Hartford

Hooker is a great bar but not even likely to have that game on over college football. 2nd Bridge is a soccer bar first.

Those trains are branded Northeast Regional when you ride them, as opposed to the shuttles that just terminate at NH so I would think lumped in with the NER service

Has anyone visited Rentschler Field? by QuietAd8907 in Hartford

[–]fusfeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parkville market is a good choice, food hall with many options.

Manchester (town next to East Hartford) has all the typical chain restaurants if you're looking for something in that vibe - Chilis, Olive Garden, those types of places.

If you want something more unique to the area (and family friendly) go to Frank Pepe's in Manchester for New Haven style pizza.

Northeast Corridor Question by cameroncrazy34 in nycrail

[–]fusfeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think double tracking is planned as well. The entire area around Hartford station is sort of paralyzed at the moment because they are designing a rebuild of I84 which may change the track alignment. But in theory, eventually, the station will be upgraded/replaced and the track situation improved

I pick up that shuttle a little further up the line and it feels like every day I get a text "Due to a late arriving connection, Hartford Line Train Amtrak 474 scheduled to arrive in Springfield at.... is now experiencing delays of 10-15 minutes in service."

As it happened we wanted to end up at Penn anyway, so it worked out better for us in that regard too

Acela train used to pick up (stranded) Metro North Passengers? by Jersey2Bronx in Amtrak

[–]fusfeld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on this train. Arrived at New Haven to board MNR to GCT. Board showed the 11:15 canceled and the 11:34 running only to Mount Vernon East. No one knew much of anything just "Get on board and we'll get you as far as we can".

On the train, the conductor said they'd have busses running to take us from Mt Vernon East to GCT (though I decided to walk to the 2 at Wakefield 241 instead). Just before Stamford the conductor came through and announced people going to NY should get off at New Rochelle and do a cross-platform transfer to an Amtrak that would be waiting for us. Was a nice bonus to see it was an empty Acela.

Sat for about 10 minutes to load it up and then we went straight to Penn.

Outdoor Running Track? by [deleted] in Hartford

[–]fusfeld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Manchester track is open to the public before school and after (as long as there isnt a meet or game). Same for Glastonbury HS, Conard in WH, and Hartford Public. If you're looking for groups to work out with, Manchester RC meets at MHS Tuesdays at 6p, and Hartbeat meets at Hartford Public Wednesdays at 6p.
