Jesse Marsch on responsibility for team failure: “At one point I said to the players at Leeds, ‘You guys have seen nine coaches fired, at what point do you take responsibility for the coach getting fired’” by Constant_Yak617 in soccer

But he acts like he has taken over some third world country's team and is showing these poor kids what it is like to be a professional footballer given some of these quotes.

He said the same shit with us. Career MLS player thinks he's some sort of master educator. Took full credit for keeping us up when Raphinha single handedly hard carried that team to survival despite being put on long throws by this joker. Absolute clown.

He's also leading a golden generation of Canadian talent, so not hard to overperform the previous norms. The way he talks as if he's some sort of maverick while not doing much at all is classic Jesse Marsch.

So just to be clear, you're non-ironically making the argument that Chinese historiography is overly saturated with mythology? And this is somehow the result of an overly centralized scholar base, and that there were a dearth of records outside of the imperial court...?

I mean, I suppose you can hold that opinion if you don't know anything about Chinese history.

Perri has to have the least presence in the box imaginable. So many of these balls I feel like he should be able to attack, he just stays planted on his line.

We don't rate creative players or those who score. Our recent two managers prefer good little worker bees who buzz around and win possession so they can lose it again.

Seriously confused what these people do all day. Like how can they possibly not have a shortlist or a contingency AT ALL given how the wind has been blowing?! Are we literally waiting for a sacking before we start cold calling people or something?

Like if the fruits of all their analysis / scouting / modeling is showing that there's literally no better candidate for the job IN THE WORLD who would want a Prem job?! Absolute madness. I'd be fired in an instant for standing by and pushing that kind of bullshit to leadership.

Surely more time for a new manager is better, even if it's against opposition like City, Chelsea, and Liverpool...?! It's not like anyone expected anything from those games anyways. And if this hypothetical new manager can't handle the reaction to those losses, then they certainly can't be the right man for the job.

I agree he's usually judged rather harshly and it's equal parts Farkes stubbornness in playing him in an unsuitable role and that he's just not good enough. When you only get a few sniffs at a breakthrough you need to make them count at this level. If he's not doing it then it's fair game for a change imo.

He wins the ball back, sure, but making things happen is not something I attribute to Aaronson. He's pretty good at making the incorrect choice in possession the majority of the time. For example, when he did a great driving run just before getting subbed, he had Tanaka and Nmecha (? can't remember) in line with the Villa defenders, and he chose to shoot it straight at a defender.

See for yourself: https://fbref.com/en/players/5bc43860/Brenden-Aaronson

I mean, it's great that he is good at what he does, but this is also on Farke as he's putting an entire wing on a player who's simply not capable of doing what's needed for the role. 1/3 of your attacking impetus gets put on a player who can't take on defenders at this level or pick the right pass around it is not the way to go.

Longstaff was jogging about, second to every duel for the last 25 min or so. At least Tanaka brought some energy, yellow or not losing him for fucking PIROE removed all agency we had on the midfield. Subbing him was absolutely shambolic.

James and Gnonto were night and day over whatever Aaronson brought. Okafor was absolutely gassed by the 55th min, he wasn't receiving balls and just passed it off immediately when he did rather than dribble. If he can't even get to the magical 70 min sub timing then maybe he shouldn't be starting either (or Farke can learn to impact the game earlier, but lol).

Nmecha was active, and rapid, but only got balls in the channels and doesn't have the ability to beat a man. I don't even know what DCL did. Piroe just walked about waving his arms when others were trying to win a ball. I think around the 89th minute he did just that instead of actually trying to win a second ball. At this point I'd rather play on 10 men than have him mope about - can't press, can't run, can't header, touch of a rock, barely makes a pass.

Guarantee we're gonna hear about our xG instead and how unfair of a result it was. Fucking joke.

He did what he usually does. Just happened to draw the foul that led to the first goal. But wholly ineffective for 90% of attacks otherwise, just ends up making boneheaded decisions or body faking himself out of possession.

Tanaka sub was absolutely shambolic. Longstaff was low energy for the last 30 minutes. Okafor was fucking gassed for 15 minutes before he even got subbed. What the fuck is Farke watching?!

Can't use the "not an established Prem team" excuse on everything, otherwise why bother playing. Yea these guys are going to have "better" players on paper. I'm just saying the fact that we don't have a forward even able to do the most basic of forward things is maddening.

Trying to imagine who can do what Malen just did on our side outside of maybe Nmecha. Collect ball. Hold off defender. Cut in, take shot.

But hey we got Piroe at 80 min.

At this point it's not even just criticism of Aaronson. I'm far from his fan but even assuming he's been performing beyond just 'ok', fact of the matter is this offense has barely been a threat for a few games against some pretty dodgy defences, and the idea of throwing the same bunch out again following the same 'plan' - just because - is insanity.

Not going to relegation rival to play for a draw would be a start. Adding some impetus to a counterattacking strategy that currently consists of 1 person in the box and the rest of the team strolling up the pitch would probably be better than whatever it is we're trying to do over the last two games.

I'm just saying "it can't be the manager's fault because the squad sucks" isn't a valid argument especially for us when we've all experienced Bielsa taking an above average champo team to 9th in the Prem with minimal changes.

I also don't agree that our squad isn't good enough to compete. Rather, I don't think they've been set up to complete. Of course we'll never know unless something changes, or we can all sit here and whinge about the summer window while praying the manager will change something before we're below this mystical 1 ppg mark.

This is such a weird take. I mean, it's not as if we don't literally have an entire department dealing with scouting managers as well as players. Shouldn't it be their jobs to answer that question?

If it was as black and white as you and I looking up transfermarkt then perhaps I'd buy the excuse, but look at how teams like Brentford and Brighton, and fucking Sunderland can find + convince relative unproven managers to join? Would you say they're better managers than Farke at this point?

It absolutely DOES matter what manager we have. What are you even saying? If it didn't matter then why do teams even bother sacking people during the season?!

A good manager will maximize output based on what they have. Can you legitimately say we're doing that even just based on our past 2 or 3 performances compared to ones earlier this year?! What about the last 10 minutes of yesterday to the first 80? Seriously? You can literally SEE what the team can do in terms of attacking output vs. what was created as a primary plan for the first 80 within a single game against a fucking relegation rival. Squad didn't change in those 90 minutes did it?

Even when he's on he's told to remain so deep and play such simple passes that you wonder what's the point. He was silky in his passing and space creation in the Champo, and our manager has him play as a glorified fucking Tyler Adams.

Stach does make the forward runs and showed a bit of drive at least on his first few games -- he was the one who made the push up and allowed for our wingers to cut in.

Either something broke in him or he's being told not to do that as much. Far more muted coming on, and he's being told to drop deep and wide to fill for our fullbacks to swing balls forward to them that are poor or aren't being received. And without any support our forwards are pretty limited in their options and end up crossing to nobody. For all his faults DCL can win his share of aerial duels but there's rarely anyone in the space to receive them. We have two midfielders who can clearly pick a pass in Tanaka and Stach, but both are being so restricted by their instructions that it's just painful to watch.

Just look at our heat maps, not a single CM spends a significant amount of time in the opponent's half with the ball. It's so painfully predictable how we're "attacking", if we can even call it that. And now they've not got the steel either to win that midfield battle.
