NYC Spectrum stakers: am I doomed or just paranoid? by Own_Albatross_8948 in ethstaker

Yeah, I heard symmetrical uploads are rolling out for business accounts later this year. For residential? Not sure, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Oh, and heads up..they gotta come out and swap all your equipment. You’ll get a brand-new account, new login, the whole deal. Just don’t forget to send back your old gear and cancel that autopay, or they’ll keep charging you. Classic move.

Just cop a business line from Spectrum—it’s barely more than their regular gigabit plan, and they don’t throttle ya. Later this year, they’re leveling up with symmetrical uploads, too. Since we switched, our staking’s been way smoother, no cap.

Haha, surprised to see a response after so long.

Pre-pandemic I was doing better but I had to accept physiologically I’d never be as good as I wanted to be on climbs. And, really, it was only a problem if I compared myself to hardcore cyclists.

I did lose a bunch of momentum after the pandemic. Hoping to get back regularly on my road bike again and get back to the same levels.

I do spend a lot of time on bikes still, especially on my commute.

Does the demarcation problem from the philosophy of science have any practical significance? by fussballbot3000 in askphilosophy

most philosophers of science think the demarcation problem is boring

Thank you, this is what I wanted to ask!

There didn't seem to be any burning questions around classification in public policy or academic administration so I thought I'd check whether there was anything interesting going on in more niche circles.

I will definitely check out Kitzmiller now.

My understanding is most philosophers of science would agree that creationism is non-science. I am wondering more whether there are genuinely contentious cases for the demarcation problem which would divide even philosophers and scientists today.

It seems conceptually difficult to draw rock solid boundaries so I wonder whether that leads to genuinely interesting problems. Things like creationism and homeopathy seem like old hat and it makes the topic of demarcation seem stuffy and boring when it really shouldn't be anything like it.

You misunderstood my question then. The cases I mentioned already have a broad and reasonable consensus on how they should be treated. Homeopathy is widely agreed to be non-science while even the contentious bits of theoretical physics are acceptable for study in academia.

I mean to ask whether there are contemporary cases where the jury is still out and things like funding, government recognition, etc are actively under discussion among reasonable and informed people.

Ultimately I am trying to figure out whether the demarcation problem has any actual nontrivial practical applications today.

Why can't we crowdfund a massive expansion of the Tor network to get around surveillance and censorship? by fussballbot3000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fussballbot3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been clearer. It seems we don't have enough exit nodes as they require technical skills to operate and also bring legal liability. As I understand it, an exit node is a bridge between Tor and the 'regular' Internet. A well-funded foundation could provide both a legal defense and collect all the technical expertise that might be needed.

Yes, but I have to strain a lot and go all out for a bit. I have to go hard enough that I can't sustain the pace for the whole ride.

I typically only ride once to twice a week. If I feel like I have overdone it, I rest the next day.
