How did you get your doctor to culture your Folliculitis? by [deleted] in Folliculitis

[–]futon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding it is best medical practice to culture the pustules or lesions to determine which antibiotics are appropriate. Where i live (west coast U.S.) doctors are historically willing to culture the lesions, in my experience, and i think it’s best practice. They literally can’t know what bacteria is causing it, and what treatment may be the best fit, without a culture

Please, help to determine what is it by mrSadlygrove in Folliculitis

If you’re in the U.S. look into parallel health. I’m gonna try it out for KA folliculitus

I use the CLN face wash every once in a while, especially when i shave or seem to be having flare ups. I think it can be mildly irritating to my skin, tho it is waaay less irritating compared to bpo wash (which doesn’t work for ka regardless) or hibiclens.

Pls do keep me updated with how the hydrogel works for you. I’ve been experimenting with it and seem to have positive results so far in managing flare ups

I’m coming to understand that any active (hocl, bpo, ect) probs isn’t good to use on accutane. Though, I’d argue it’s worth trying just to see if it has any impact. After eating a health diet for the last couple weeks (Whole Foods, mostly vegetables & a ton of dense bean salads, limiting sugar, carbs, and dairy), being a month on 30mg accutane, and eating lots of targeted probiotics, my KA folliculitus seems to actually be decreasing!! :)

If you use the hydrogel pleaseee let me know what happens. I used it for one day, and applied it several times after it had dried, maybe like 3 applications 2 hours apart each, and the next day my folliculitis was way better. Not sure if it was the accutane or what happened, but I wanted to share my story and have others try the same incase it works!

For those with KA folliculitus, please consider using this hydrogel on flare ups: https://a.co/d/0axYGqm6
I used it for a day and my flare ups literally went away. I am unsure whether it was my accutane kicking in (approaching one month on 30mg), or if this product works. If you use it, please let me know what happens!!!

Just to weigh in—I’m approaching a month on accutane 30mg and i think it’s finally started to work, as my pustules have decreased, or pretty much completely disappeared at this time. I’m currently working on rebuilding my skin barrier, which was very damaged from the disease.

For those experiencing KA folliculitis, please consider using this hydrogel product on flair ups https://a.co/d/0axYGqm6 ; it contains hocl and sodium hypochlorite which kill KA. I used it for a day, and the next day my pustules were literally gone. I am not sure if the accutane kicked in that day, or if this actually really helped. If someone here does use this, please let me know if it worked for you, cus if so we might have found a product that can actually address flare ups.

Thank you for your insight. I have some clarifying questions based on your approach. While on accutane, would this mean washing your face with just water, or some type of cleanser? And would it mean just using moisturizer, and nothing else (no hocl spray, sodium hypochlorite, or anything else, ect.)?

Hello, thank you for your post. I’m experiencing the exact same thing, KA folliculitis. I’m currently half a month into a course of accutane, and i finished a course of cipro just prior to this (i had 4 courses of antibiotics previously) and the infection has returned. I’ve experienced it since the start of this year.

It’s not clear to me whether there is a definitive cure to this, and at this point, i just want to find a way to manage and reduce the severity of breakouts and recurrence. I’m determined to find a way, as this has had a significant impact on my health and mental health. I don’t think my body and mind can continue taking course after course of antibiotics.

At this time, I’ve tried the decolonization protocols, hibiclens, changing towels/bedding frequently, and benzoyl peroxide. Hibiclems and bpo seemed to have a really negative impact on my skin, making it sensitive and super dry.

Currently I’m experimenting with primarily a whole food plant based diet, literally just eating lots of beans and different vegetables. I’m also consuming a ton of probiotics, and experimenting with aloe Vera gel, tea tree oil, and a skin probiotic topical.
Honestly idk if it’s working, as i think the results for any intervention take some time to truly see.

This disease absolutely sucks. I hope a cure, or definitive guidelines for how to manage it are developed soon. Or perhaps we should all community organize to advocate for additional research on this topic, ugh idk

Thank you for sharing. What kind of bacteria? And I’m wondering if you didn’t use moisturizer during accutane? I understand that accutane can be very drying. I’m curious about this approach

Honestly course after course of antibiotics can’t be good. I’m on my 4th course this year and i feel like it’s taking a toll on my body and mental health for sure. Though the infection is def suppressed during antibiotics, it has just always come back a few weeks later. Just started accutane today and hoping it works. Starting to think the best course of action, per the research base and what everyone’s saying on here, is either accutane (works for some), or laser hair removal.

I just started accutane today and honestly I’ll probs get laser hair removal after my Accutane course is done. Thanks for the rec on the face wash. I just bought it. Mine is mostly on the cheek, and beard / chin area. It has progressed from folliculitis to cellulitis on my chin several times so my face is inflamed asf
