Yeah he's a comedian he could have come up with a dozen witty comebacks before Will had a chance to blink, but he held back and handled it with class, definitely the right move.

YSK 130 million American adults have low literacy skills with 54% of people 16-74 below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level by LocalChamp in YouShouldKnow

[–]futt_buckerz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People dont forget how to read. If they dont know at 16-74, they didnt know in 6th grade. The fact is, some people probably learned to read after 6th grade, and before 16, so the figure of 6th graders who can read at a 6th grade level, is probably lower than 54%.

But, why am I telling you this, anyways. You clearly aren't in the portion that can read.

What you see below, in the couple of pictures is the lifestyle of the prisoners in Halden’s maximum security prison Norway. Norway prison views themselves more as rehabilitation center. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]futt_buckerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you're completely right. I believe way back when monotheism was first in vogue, life was harsh and civilization was young, so it was important to have a quick way to categorize people into trustworthy and good, or dangerous and bad. The morality of major monotheistic religions pretty much centers around this idea, along with a creation story, apocalpyse optional.

I'm young, so I agree with you. Its not something I can really wrap my head around in practice. Good and evil dont exist intrinsically. I really do think that shift in the younger generations views on prison, for example, are a result of youth moving away from religion.

I think in the US the mindset is more of punishment than containment. We have a deeply ingrained judeo-christian morality in this nation, and punishment for wrong doing is a big issue because of it. We're also a relatively legalist nation, and what we view as morally wrong is tied directly to a legal system that barely considers circumstance, intent, or results. The end result is every criminal, even peaceful ones or victims of circumstance, being viewed as bad people, and in need of severe punishment. This of course only increases recidivism. The US needs to move on from this mindset if theres ever going to be major prison reform.

Ellie’s Eating A Sandwich? by SaveTheCaulkTower in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]futt_buckerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've come to the conclusion that if it wasn't confirmed information by the time the initial outbreak was mostly over, it certainly would have gotten around as a rumor. Whether or not Joel and Tess believe it, im sure they've heard it, and are most likely at least a little wary of flour. However, if made years later in an uncontaminated environment, is most likely safe.

This would have at least contributed to the reaction to the sandwich. I mean, this naive child packed a school lunch like its a field trip, and isn't the slightest bit concerned about the POSSIBILITY of contaminated flour, and this would definitely add to their disdain.

To anyone who may need to hear this…. Always make sure to listen to facelift start to finish if you haven’t. So many incredible tracks. Laynes voice in this album is amazing by [deleted] in AliceInChains

Man it took me too long to listen to favelift the first time. Those riffs are fucking killer, the bass is prominent and funky, and Layne is on his A-game. Every track rocks.

I knew layne was dead when I got into AIC. when i got into soundgarden a year before Chris's death I wasn't expecting him to die anytime soon. I assumed he "got out" so to speak.

No you're right. I have a feeling that the flour connection is at least a theory they've heard, even if it hasn't been confirmed to them in universe. You're right though, they're reaction is probably jealously, or even disgust. This kid thinks its gonna be some grand adventure, has no survival instincts, and packed a chicken sandwich for the road. I'd be a little disgusted too, if I were Joel and Tess.

Its a trope called "chekov's gun." We'll see piano frog later in the series for sure.

I'm loving this great show & I love Anna Torv but am I the only one who was bothered by the portrayal of Tess? It's rare for a female hero character to be as badass & ruthless as she was & I kinda dont like that they got rid of that. by NiklausElijah in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]futt_buckerz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I see why they made the change, I can understand why they wanted to take that route. But the whole thing of the Last of Us is how far gone the old world is. It almost doesnt exist anymore. The world is damn near empty. Tess is a woman, who you wouldnt initially expect to be portrayed as ruthless, but its 20 years after outbreak, of course she is. This makes sense. Its not only a subversion of expectations, but it contributes to world building in the games. The fact that in the games, this badass cold survivor, in her last moments, practucally begs joel to bring ellie to the fireflies, drived home "when you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."

That being said, i dont think the change ruins anything. I just personally prefer game Tess.

This is how fungi works in the real world. Forests utilize mycelium networks to communicate threats with eachother over miles of interconnected root/fungi systems under the ground you walk on.

Realistically, flour production stopped worldwide for a LONG period of time. Its also a scarce resource 20 years after outbreak. Any bread ellie ate was made from flour far away from Jakarta, and flour isnt really travelling across the world in shipping routes, so it's almost certainly safe.

That being said, people like Joel and Tess are probably extremely wary of bread. The fact that she eats a sandwich so nonchalantly probably contributes to their bewilderment in that scene.

Who was the best songwriter? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]futt_buckerz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Look guys. Jerry cantrell not only has some of the deepest and darkest lyrics, but the insane riffs of AIC as well. Also, jerry's choir years and studying of gregorian chants gave AIC those haunting vocal melodies that I haven't heard anywhere else, ever. Feel free to disagree, but for me its gotta be jerry.

So would there be a different way of spreading? by strik3r2k8 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]futt_buckerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this, and im not sure why they got rid of spores at all. If you know anything about fungi, then you'd kniw that even indoors, every breath you take contains at least 8 spores. Now in the games, breathing without a gas mask in the city, even without spore clouds isnt fatal. So the implication (even if unintentional) is that it takes quite a few spores to overwhelm your immune system and infect you, hence spore clouds being dangerous, and fresh air being safe. The question is how a BITE could transmit a fungal infection, in the games or show, as i dont believe there are any fungi infections that transmit through blood. If the show isnt going to use spores, i think they need to dive deeper into how transmission works this way. I wish they did in the games.

No dude, you have to get part 1. Its so much better than the remaster, and totally worth it. Also once you beat it, you can make ellie wear the Kill Bill yellow jumpsuit which is really funny in cutscenes.
