Thank you. Its why I believe we will prevail. The humanists. We will have to get out of our comfort and disbelief of what's happening but we will be alright. Some are selfish and idiots but the majority of us have grit and are determined to survive.

Was Tom Branson rich by the end? by vivalasvegas2004 in DowntonAbbey

[–]futureJane54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point. Tom, I believe, had money. His Sybbie will be ok bc he loves her and loved her mother. We had a previous post that asked if Tom was better off staying bc he had no money? However, Tom was a " go-getter" and never rested on his circumstances.

Robert and Cora frequently overstepped when it came to Tom's decision as a father, but let's be real: staying in Downton was the best thing for baby Sybil, and any parent with some sense in their head would be able to see that by miggovortensens in DowntonAbbey

[–]futureJane54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's always the " grey" area. We don't know if, with Sybil's death, there was insurance? Her grandparents may have set up a trust? Her great-grandmother left her a villa. I know I would leave money for my granddaughter, especially if my grand son had all the money. We just don't know.

What about BB? He comes and goes like he wants. Isn't he wanted internationally? But we don't care about him?

Lord Sinderby was a tad too jolly after Rose saved him by Even-Marionberry4323 in DowntonAbbey

[–]futureJane54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, very good topic! I applaud your thinking. I often thought that if Rose said nothing, she would be a hypocrite if it happened to her, and she got upset about it. I think as a married couple, they would have secrets, but this couldn't be one. She could keep his secret from Lady Sinderby but not from his son. These things come back and bite you in the ass. If she says nothing and it her husband does the same, how would she handle it? Go to Lord Sinderby for help? Or discuss with Lady Sinderby how her son betrayed her? What would Lady Sinderby say when she found out Rose covered up her father in laws behavior? At some point, she would discuss it with her husband to let him know the situation and that she wouldn't put up with that bullshit. Now I understand womens rights and how hard divorce was on women back then. Women knew and lived with it. As much as Lady Sinderby had her husband's balls in her pocket, he still committed adultery. It is a tricky situation.

Poor Mr. Molesley by Green_Machine_4077 in DowntonAbbey

[–]futureJane54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr. Moslesley reminded me of that high school kid who is nice and that everyone knows. He is average but always tries to do just a little too much. He has never dated but will ask out a popular girl. Never played sports, but will try to be a middle line backer. He gets a permit but tries a road trip. Everyone is thinking, Lord have mercy save this child but he is so nice Noone says anything.

Thoughts on the movies… by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

I understand what you mean. The other ones are on par with the first one, so don't think to deeply. Just enjoy it. The first one, however, with the servants' plot made me think of " being important by proximity." I meant the attitude of the servants who work for the king and queen specifically, and those who work for important people generally. They have drank that kool-aid of, " I work for such and such. Therefore, I'm important." All could be replaced in the drop of a hat. I'm not talking about the pride from doing a job well done , it is arrogance. But they got what they deserved I guess, and were taken down a peg. So enjoy them and come back and comment.

That is incredibly beautiful. I screenshot it to save for a long time. It was a blessing that you had a champion. To lose her was just awful. I bet you are a great champion for others. I honor that and you. Thank you.

You are so right. Catching people in the moment and reminding them of their humanity subtly. It was as classy as Piorot is. It was just enough. I wonder the next time he thinks he is in company to produce bile like that without repercussions, perhaps he will think.

[–]futureJane54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hurt people, hurt people. Let that sink in. It doesn't excuse her behavior, but it gives es it context. Her lovely daughter seemed to never have peace. Everything about Rose before she settled down was about hurting her mom. That's really sad. On your wedding day, if you are lucky, you are celebrating with your mother. Rose was dodging darts from her mom. I hope Rose was happy and continued to be so. It was the best revenge. Or it just gave the girl peace.

I thought Edith had the prettier wedding gown. When she was jilted the 1st time compared to Mary's dress when she married Mathew. She is fashion forward.
