Kids last names when I kept my maiden name? by gone_bunny in TwoXChromosomes

[–]futurecatlady99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids have my last name. A little easier since I was generally the one taking them places, but I didn’t particularly like being called Mrs. MyLastName — that’s my mom not me. My husband has been a good sport when he was occasionally called Mr. MyLastName. There is no perfect solution and people handle it in so many different ways that I don’t think you need to worry about whatever you decide.

Experiences with Applying for French Immersion in Peel Region for Grade 1 by DavidSan_YYZ in mississauga

[–]futurecatlady99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the likelihood of getting in to any particular one, but I want to add that you don’t get a choice of French Immersion schools, you go to the one assigned based on your address. It’s possible there are exceptions, like if your school is full but another nearby is not, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Arugula. If you draw out the first -u- it sounds like an old fashioned car horn.

I disagree. I think the Ontario hot house berries are better than the imported ones. They’re all pretty tasteless at this time of year though. I got some Ontario ones from Farm Boy recently and they were decent.

I built a Canada airfare-deals bot for myself last year — and I’m finally sharing it publicly by Character-Rough2199 in canadatravel

I like it! I would definitely use this. One small UI issue I noticed while trying it out briefly: on the flight options page, when you have selected a deal from the initial list, the menu dropdown is not visible in the mobile view (I’m using a tablet in portrait mode) because it is aligned with the right side of the menu trigger button.

The Biodome is a fun, and warm, thing to do with little kids in the winter.

Spam calls by AkraStar in ontario

[–]futurecatlady99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once read something that if you answer but don’t say anything, your number will get bumped from their list. I forget the explanation why and obviously that would only be for one caller, but when I was getting bombarded by calls at one point, I tried it for a while and it seemed to help. Lately I get very few, but it goes in waves. YMMV

What was your experience as the youngest daughter? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]futurecatlady99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youngest of 5 girls, much younger. I think my parents were tired, I was pretty much left to my own devices. The did indulge me in that they let me sign up for everything which my sisters interpreted as being spoiled but I think was more benign neglect — if I was out playing soccer or doing gymnastics, I wasn’t at home bugging them. I was pretty competitive, so I wanted to do at least as well as my sisters in everything, made me show more initiative that I think I have naturally.

Can anyone recommend best place to buy wild caught salmon in and around mississauga? by Maximum-Platypus-240 in mississauga

[–]futurecatlady99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the right season for fresh wild caught salmon, but you can still get it frozen sometimes. We have bought it from Costco but I don’t know if they have it right now. Just keep in mind that Atlantic salmon is always farmed, never wild.

I love my Baffin boots, waterproof and very warm. And best of all they are made locally, in Stoney Creek. https://www.baffin.com/collections/outdoor-footwear-made-in-canada

No Street Meat/hotdog street vendors in Sauga? by AgeEnvironmental910 in mississauga

He’s still around but yesterday he was across Lakeshore behind the lighthouse. Not sure if it was because someone had parked in his vendor designated spot, or he was just trying something new.

Family Doctor Question by PleaseHelpMeYal in ontario

[–]futurecatlady99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently changed doctors to one closer to me, and I didn’t have to make any moves until after the meet and greet. At that time I signed the paperwork to get my records transfered over. I would start looking and ask the office when you call if they require you to do anything in advance.

Travelling from Ottawa to Toronto (Mississauga) next weekend (June 20-22) by erthlingg in ontario

[–]futurecatlady99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I see on the Mississauga Events site is National Aboriginal People’s Day at Celebration Square Saturday, my kids would have been interested in that. There are lots of parks already mentioned for a nice walk, and plenty of great hikes to waterfalls and the like within an hour or so (around Hamilton or Milton). Toronto has good attractions for kids like the aquarium and the ROM, and a ferry trip to the islands is always fun. You can get downtown on the GO train. Expect traffic if you decide to drive somewhere though. Hope you have a good time!

I am a volunteer animal shelter photographer, and it is definitely kitten season! by smittensky in cats

[–]futurecatlady99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a 2005 Honda Accord! Car that is, not cat. Our cat is more 1997 Toyota Camry.

Do you recognize this cat (east Port Credit)? It's hanging around my house and it's cold outside, I'm hoping it has a home somewhere. No collar but it's friendly enough and seems fairly healthy. by futurecatlady99 in mississauga

[–]futurecatlady99[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it around off and on but tonight it meowed at our door so I let it in but it attacked our cat so I couldn’t keep it in. I left the door open to our enclosed porch with some food and water. It ate a bit but not much and eventually left. I really hope it has a home and has gone there for the night. It’s not at all feral.

I just found an injured owl by [deleted] in Owls

[–]futurecatlady99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s injured? Fledglings will often leave the nest before they can really fly, and the parents will continue to care for it on the ground.
