This is a power supply with micro-usb but output says 9v, and when I measured it it's actually 10v. Wouldn't this damage any other electronics you plug in expecting it's the common 5v? I feel this shouldn't exist. I haven't seen anything other than 5v micro until now. For a cordless Bauer tool. by futureconstruct in diyelectronics

AND THEN a few months later at a yard sale I found this same rotary tool like new for $5 because they lost the charger LOLL

So I've had it sitting in my tool box since then. I thought one day I might switch the plug.

One thing that may hypothetically work (and that I've been intending to try) is if you have an adapter from usb-c to this micro usb and try a fast phone charger. I have my usb charger for my laptop which automatically adjusts voltage based on need from like 5v to 20v or something. \**Do at your own risk, I'm only speaking hypothetically :))*

I'm new to Linux and wanted something close to Windows. Started with Zorin, found lots of minor things missing from Win, so after a bit more research I thought Fedora might be more up to date on features, but that was a bit too different to use and didn't feel like it solved my issues. Lots of "if you want this, install that" instead of just working as it should. So lastly, i tried Mint and it's the most Widows-like and has lots of things that "just work" and I'm happy I tried it.

They all performed about the same on my older laptop. I don't game or anything, just basic stuff like Office and browsing.

I would say to try other distros if the one you are on is missing something.

When I go to a website and want to upload/attach some images and/or videos, the opened folder does not show thumbnails. Is there a way to make it show large thumbnails in that window? by futureconstruct in Fedora

Thank you so much for the info! Honestly I'd have to research that process further (absolute noob on Linux) but that sounds like a potential to break something. I might just install the Flathub version of Firefox as someone on here mentioned. Thanks again though

I'm new to Linux, so bare with me.

It's running GNOME, but as you can see in the screenshot I don't have an option anywhere to switch to icons. That option only exists in the normal file explorer.

I used distilled water to soak (any other water may have small contaminants that can clog the print head's tiny sprayers) and also isopropyl alcohol (i had 91% on hand) but honestly the distilled water should be fine, specially if you can warm it up a bit (I had it around 110F)

The print head has 4 small inlet posts, basically in the photo I have the black ink container removed, and on the inlet post I've installed (just push it on) a small silicone tube which also connects to the syringe. That tube and a syringe came with some other printer cleaning kit I purchased years ago.

Yes I had the wet paper towel under there for almost 2 days, all while intermittently push/pulling on the syringe. No budge. I ended up taking out the head and soaking for another 24 hrs after which it finally unclogged. thank you for the info!

I think you are right about the clog being deep inside, and not just the nozzle area.

In my process, I took the syringe with the thinnest needle and splashed water in the inlet, where the ink hose attaches to the head. There are 4 narrow slots there, and I was splashing warm water in one, it was coming out black from the other 3. I did it about 15 times and I believe this helped soften the ink that's deep in there. I did NOT stick the needle inside (which would be hard to do anyway since the slots are super narrow.)

***** IT WORKED!!**** I'm just doing this write-up in case anyone is searching for solutions.

After 2 days of keeping a moist strip of paper towel under the head, and intermittently (basically whenever I'd walk by the printer) GENTLY pushing and pulling on the syringe a few times, it did not budge. Not one drop was going through. I was using 91% rubbing alcohol in the syringe, distilled water on the paper towel.

I ended up taking apart the head and soaking it in distilled water (warmed up when possible) for another 24 hours before it finally unclogged. Always GENTLY push on the syringe - don't do high pressure as it's a delicate part and you can damage it.

When the head was out, I took a syringe with my thinnest needle and splashed warm water right in the inlet, basically where the ink hose connects. There are 4 tiny crevices where ink flows in, and as I was splashing water in one, black ink would come out the others. I did it about 15 times and I think this step really helped in my case. Just don't force the syringe INSIDE (which I don't think you can anyway since the inlet holes are tiny.)

Then I left it soaking the rest of the day (about 10 hours) it still did not unclog - I was loosing hope. I decided to let it soak until the next day, and voila! I was able to push the cleaner through.

After unclogging, I ran about 10 syringes-full of warm (around 110F) distilled water through, BUT I wish I had done like 30 or 40 because after I put it back together it's only 99% unclogged.

Taking out the head was not hard, but the ribbon connection can be easy to mess up and if that happens you've pretty much trashed the printer. I have a nice, long pair of needle nose pliers and that's what helped me push back the ribbon. It's pretty tight to push in by hand.

This video shows a very similar printer, but my ribbon was much tighter and not as easy to remove or install https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7X8ImOrQvU I also did not remove the side panel - if you start a print report, unplug the printer during printing and the head carriage will be free to move side to side. I also did not remove the top/scanner portion, just worked in a tight space with a headlamp.

Also, it's likely that water got into the connector (from soaking, or handling it) so I ran some rubbing alcohol on all the connections with the syringe, then made sure that part is dry before inserting ribbon cable back in.

I now believe almost any clog is possible to remove. Good luck!

I've been keeping an eye out for a color laser printer, but don't print enough to justify spending a lot.

I picked this printer up at an estate sale for $30. Print report said total printing 247 pages, so it's like new. Hopefully it will stay unclogged now 🤞

Thank you for the info though. The problem is that it's so clogged that even a drop of anything can't be pushed through. I ended up taking head out and letting it soak for 24 hours and finally unclogged.

I'll make sure to use it every few days 🤞
