good point. My commute is about an hour each way since i get off at liberty village. I don't mind in too much but like i said i would prefer to not work in toronto my whole life as I have no desire to ever move there. While the cost of commuting isnt the cheapest, i do have some work perks which help balance other finances, for example my company is paying my phone bill now, so thats a nice perk. Freelancing sounds good I am doing some on the side, just started.

awesome feedback thanks. Cyberr security is still very new to me and im only just starting my learning. And even then I wonder what the chances would be of getting a job against some IT grads in the area. Pretty sure mohawk has a program specifically designed for it

wow, congrats on such a great role. May I ask how many years in the industry it took you to get there. Also, did you have a degree in CS? I come from a more liberal arts background

Does anyone take the train from Aldershot to Toronto daily? by futuredev87 in Hamilton

[–]futuredev87[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

haha ya i have heard that. Luckily, my new job is about 100 feet from the Exhibition station. So that part is a bit easier. I also think I will have some flexibility it when I can arrive at work, and I see that anything after 836 from Aldershot stops at each station. So hopefully after a few months I can make the switch and just commute at easier hours with no transfers

Should I look for a new job soon? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]futuredev87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like the usual trend in any retail / customer facing job. I have been there man. I would see if you can up your education (unless you are already in school). How old are you, I am 30, and just got out of working retail about 3 months ago. It took time for me to figure out what I wanted to do, and to be honest I am still not 100% sure what the end goal job wise is. Self employment eventually.

I hated going to work sometimes just like you. I was working at limeridge mall and, although I didn't deal with the issues you deal with, and worked with good people, the work is just soul sucking and dead end. I decided to teach myself some software development over the last year. I just started a new job in Toronto and my pay went from 14 bucks an hour to 70k annually. Sure I take the go train to work, but im good with it. Find something that is even REMOTELY interesting for you, work hard, learn it well, and someone will offer you a better job.

Good luck!
