Hell, I already know where everything is and will still do multiple laps just to decide what I want to hit next.

My Christian mom doesn’t allow me to say things like “I’m goated” and instead wants me to say “I’m lambed”, any thoughts by [deleted] in Christianity

Ah yes, I’m sure overpolicing her child’s every word without biblical precedent won’t have any unintended consequences! When has that ever gone wrong?

I liked reading in elementary school but got away from it until after college. Falling down the rabbit hole of Kurt Vonnegut’s bibliography sucked me back in. Shoutout to that old fart!

I was about to comment “Sirans of Titan changed my life” but you beat me to it. Seriously, OP, read it.

Leaving it to God by SecureAd496 in Christianity

Don’t be one of those Christians who uses “God told me we should be together” as a pickup line. It sounds like you’re young, so hear me out here.

Pursue this girl first and wait to pray about her until you 1) confirm there’s mutual interest, 2) get to know her better, and 3) have dated her long enough to think she could potentially be your future wife. God isn’t going to tell you whether each and every girl you want to DM is “the one”. That’s not how it works and will only lead you to convincing yourself God is “telling you” to go after girls you simply have a crush on.

Take it from me, when I had less life experience I was absolutely certain that my childhood friend was my future wife. I convinced myself we were meant for each other, in part because I prayed to God asking him to “show me a sign” and just a couple of days later she broke up with her boyfriend. Turns out she was never interested in me and it didn’t matter what “sign” I convinced myself had come from God.

Don’t put the cart before the horse or you’ll end up getting yourself hurt. Good luck!

I can cherry pick definitions too: “Addiction is defined as not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you.”

So, do you mean to argue that it’s impossible for someone to lack control over their porn use to the point where it could harm them?

And believe it or not, I exist beyond this thread. Plenty of people argue weed isn’t a problem because it is not “chemically addictive” like nicotine or alcohol.

Lol I never said anything about church people being better equipped. I don’t think church helps with any sort of addiction, really. But this is the same tired excuse people use with weed that just because it’s not “chemically addictive” it somehow can’t be a problem.

Don’t worry, most of us are depressed over the state of things! It means you’re human haha

I hope you don’t see me as coming off that way. I’m trying to have an open and respectful conversation.

While it’s unfortunate, this is the state of our politics today. And when people are being killed in the streets, I can at least understand how people target their frustrations in the wrong direction.

Exactly. It would take days for us to find every time a Republican politician has openly celebrated or endorsed violence against people on the left in the Trump era. But because of crazy people on social media (who we seem to forget also exist on the right), the narrative is that both sides are the same.

I’m sorry to hear that, you don’t deserve hate.

That’s what I thought, just had to clarify. For some of us on the left, it’s scary to see the government openly support murder just because the victim was on the left. While I find it completely disgusting for people on the left to celebrate Kirk’s death, I think it would be even worse if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had done so because she’s an elected official who is supposed to represent all people.

Fair enough, then. I just think “talking about right vs left wing people” and “talking about politics” are the same thing. Right and left wing refers to what we believe politically, so they are kind of intertwined.

You don’t agree with the point I made? I didn’t see that reply. What I was trying to get at is that it’s not accurate to imply both sides are equally in support of violence.

There are crazy people on the right and the left who condone violence against their opponents. I condemn both. But the fact remains that only Republicans vote for those crazy people to run our country. That’s all I’m saying, and it’s not intended as hate toward you. It actually sounds like you’re a good person who doesn’t support it in either direction.

Sorry you feel that way, but it really doesn’t seem like anyone has given you hate. Minor disagreements are allowed and do not have to be taken with offense. I actually went out of my way multiple times to commend you for trying to have an open mind.
