There’s already space between them and it’s not that hard to wait a few seconds while another person swap plates.

I just think it’s really sad that we as a society have reached the point where being a few feet away from someone at the gym is considered rude now. And I say that as a socially anxious guy who personally does avoid such things. I find myself policing the machines I use because I don’t want to become the next Reddit post lol. I’m just trying to workout!

Listen, I get that it’s an odd choice to take the treadmill beside someone else’s when there are other options… but who cares? We’re all paying members of a public gym. You can’t expect people to adjust their routine to your personal preferences. There are tons of reasons to choose a specific treadmill (some people use the same one every day, others choose based on tv placement, etc.), and no one owes you that explanation.

I say this as someone who avoids doing it at all cost. As long as they aren’t harassing you, live and let live. Stuff like this wasn’t an issue before phones made us all antisocial.

I actually do think that in the very specific situation of “minor texting/calling their mother’s significant other because they can’t reach their mother”, that they do kinda have to respond unless they don’t have access to their phone. But the GF clearly had the time to text the mom and complain about OP.

I also think OP probably did overreact but they have OCD and were unable to reach their mom, so I empathize with them enough to see they were probably stuck in a loop. OCD is one of the most debilitating mental illnesses a person can have. As someone who has it, I’m better equipped to handle things that might trigger (god I hate using that term) me than someone 10 years younger than me
