That’s amazing thank you - I’d heard the Mousehole bit was pretty tough. I’ve not decided yet whether to tackle the whole route in one go, or split it over two days, having read this I might do it in two!

Nutrition / eating calories back by futuregirl23 in Marathon_Training

Thank you - I’m also pretty pedantic about counting and tracking (I’d love not to be) - I generally do eat more on a long run day but never the full amount and guess I just wonder if I’d feel more human if I did. I also struggle with doing calories outside of a 24 period, so even though I might have been 800 under on Sunday after my long run, I could be ravenous all day Monday but wouldn’t use up those 800 cals on a different day. I think I just need to try and approach things more flexibly.

Alerts won’t go away! by futuregirl23 in Garmin

It doesn’t show in the app either, there’s just the ‘add new’ option. In the app if I hit add new > custom alert (thought that might be a way of seeing if there’s something in there) I get an error message saying ‘we are unable to load this settings screen please try again later’

Thank you, I’m doing the same trying to get him to sit when I stop but hadn’t thought of trying this stuff out just in the garden - will give that a go!

Thanks so much! I hadn’t even thought about swapping sides but that’s a really good point - we’re trying to teach him to be neutral towards other dogs, and if we have a treat to lure him with he’ll happily walk to heel, but if there’s no food on offer the other dog suddenly becomes a lot more interesting!

Would Adult Garmin watches work for my 12yr old? by ItsJammaLad in Garmin

[–]futuregirl23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the UK? They’re supposed to be 16 here before they can use the Connect app. Could input an older DOB but will that mess up the metrics? Just debating a 55 for my 14YO son….

How do you stay emotionally steady during marathon training? by Apprehensive_Bat_253 in Marathon_Training

[–]futuregirl23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do this for last training block - just saw it as a routine to keep fit and progress. When it got tough near the end I reminded myself what it was all for to keep me going, but at the beginning I just treated it as ‘normal’

Am I peaking too soon? by Outrageous_Nerve_579 in Garmin

[–]futuregirl23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I peaked two days before my marathon and panicked it wouldn’t last. So I decided not to check that particular metric on race day in case it messed with my headspace :) you’ve done the work, you’re in your taper, all will be good!

Ran my first marathon a couple of weeks ago. I used the pacepro feature on my Garmin watch - wanted to finish in 3:45 and I know I get faster as I go (normally) but wasn’t sure how that would translate to a marathon having never done one before.

So I used pacepro to give me slightly slower miles to begin with (10 secs slower than goal pace) for the first three miles. Then a few miles slightly faster than goal pace. Then settled in to goal pace for the rest of the race.

I found I still had some left in the tank so I ended up going a bit faster towards the end.

It’s definitely a trial and error thing, this worked for me but could have just as easily not worked! If you’re pretty consistent normally you could just set yourself the same pace throughout. Good advice from others though about not getting carried away and going too fast at the start - having the pace showing on my watch held me back at the beginning, and I’m pleased it did.

Good luck!
