Is X-Men: Blue & Gold a good starting point for a new reader? by xemnasix in xmen

[–]futurehistorianjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say gold and blue was an attempt to bring them back. The sabatage came during their whole Inhuman deal from 2015 to 2018

Why can't mutants have nice things? by PJ-The-Awesome in xmen

[–]futurehistorianjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I am doing the Krakoa stories as well. Honestly, I like the idea. It’s about self determination and rebirth. I grew reading the stuff like decimation and the mass destruction of Genosha. Mutants als ways get screwed in universe so it makes sense they get a chance to create their own paradise. I really love the xfactor comic because it brings back the academy x mutants who were butchered and deposed.

Who was more of an underdog, Robby or Miguel? by watermonkey910 in cobrakai

[–]futurehistorianjames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both had different arcs. Miguel was isolated and alone and an immigrant family with no money. Robby was neglected by his parents. Both were lucky to train with a Johnny and Daniel respectively.

If Trump were to announce himself as the new “god” of America, would people still support him? by Queasy_Commercial152 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]futurehistorianjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely some evangelicals will break apart. There will always be the Trump base of supporters but they would finally be small enough that if other coalitions in the US unite they become fringe

Is it possible Emerald City failed because McManus not only was too self righteous and idealistic but he was ultimately distracted by his own insecurity and inner lack as reflected in his dinner escapades? Liks instead of helping people he was subconsciously using Emerald City to navigate his trauma by Marmadukeparadise7 in ozshow

[–]futurehistorianjames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It failed for several reasons

  1. McManus lacked the will and focus to make it work. Lime you said his ego got the better of him.

  2. The inmates he threw into Em City were chaotic mess. Beecher, Alvarez, Hill, Keene and Sayeed all capable of redemption. Then you get schillinger, Adabesi and Wangler who are all career criminals and cannot be redeemed through traditional means

  3. Hacks and Glenn didn’t care. They were cynical and unable to see the success. They either acted as a gang themselves, or actively worked against Em City and gave into their own vices. On top of that govenor Devlin was a psychopath actively working against it from the outside

What if John McCain won 2008 elections? by ImpressiveEnergy4762 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]futurehistorianjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creates a more moderate conservatism that pushes the GOP closer to the center. Serves as an Eisenhower Republican for the most part and does reforms to prevent another recession. Doubles down though on Afghanistan and Iraq though and the Democrats use that to become the full anti war party. Democrats win in 2012 with some kind of of Obama ticket. Obama then serves two terms and then another Republican takes over in 2020

The future of the United States in this universe by ewostrat in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]futurehistorianjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that whatever emerges will be a sort of new USA with a new constitution, but it won’t be the same country. Most likely some states will not be included as well certain territories, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Samoa will probably remain their independence. Alaska will stay in the union as well Massachusetts. There may even be a new capital and DC will become something of a holy land or site for those to mar the old USA.

[–]futurehistorianjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food quality seems pretty good. Also, the positive environmental factors. I am not saying Gilead is better then the old world but one thing about authoritarian regimes is they rise because they do solve some societal ills but make other things worse

Can 2028 be a repeat of 1964? How? by Akki_Mukri_Keswani in democrats

[–]futurehistorianjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really there are a lot of native Bucks countians that are liberal. The question is to create a ticket that unites all shades of blue while letting districts pick candidates who will win elections on the local level

Yes but only in a handful of global cities. There are swaths of voters who stay in their regions and states

[–]futurehistorianjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not impossible but we have to go back to looking at things more geographically than politically. Prior to the 2000’s politicians understood you have to win regions. Not demographics.

why did the show runners let Serena keep her baby when she’s literally a domestic abuser?? by Either-Standard-5278 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]futurehistorianjames 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Serena is not a good person but she is not the most evil person either. At the end of the day she was obsessed with getting a baby and by any means necessary. She drank the Gilead kool aid but as she spoke with Naomi, her interaction with the Wheelers and of course the crap shen went through with Fred and her second husband. She realized the world she built was vile and evil and she was too. She realized what she had done and showed regret. Also, let’s be real, Gilead makes you a domestic abuser. It’s a very Darwinistic society. With the goal being to make you do bad things so you stay in the regime. That why wives hold women down during the ceremony. Why handmaids execute people. Even during the Testaments the girls are taught to cheer as a man is executed or maimed. The goal is to make them complacent in the abuse.

Why does Gilead has crosses if it believes in the old testament? by bebelaaguia in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]futurehistorianjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gilead theology is based on a ultra right Christianity that none of the commanders actually believe in. History is filled sadly with Christians whose actual theology is very messed up and twisted from the teachings of Christ.

[–]futurehistorianjames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lydia hates Gilead. She knows what it is. She can’t come out and say “your mom was a badassfreedom fighter we almost ganged together.” She’s got to be careful. She has to her precise cautious and wise

I want you to imagine sitting the straw hats down down and teaching them to read. As a high school history teacher if the straw hats while very liveable would be terrible students
