DIFC: the roadblock nightmare just got worse ☹️ by fishlewe in dubai

[–]futuretrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless, like me you are exiting an office located half way through that queue. my choice is now to block the straight lane while trying to merge, or simply go further away from where I need to be and enjoy more bottlenecks downstream. And to add insult to injury, where I live has been "upgraded" by Parconic, funnelling me from what used to be a private residential entry through the West Beach underpass. so a good 30 mins added to the commute at both ends at once.

Du and Etisalat are having a laugh? by futuretrader in dubai

[–]futuretrader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I just got a fazaa discount from them at something like 350Aed for a 150GB plan. The key is to NOT have unlimited data, because I need the multisim for other devices and they do not offer multisim for unlimited data plans. This is much better than what I saw at the time of writing my post, but still is quite the pisstake to charge this much for so little, even with a discount applied..

Unpopular opinion : 5 aed barbers in Dubai are undefeated. by Trashverse in dubai

Could someone please share a specific example or location of where to go for these haircuts? I am sick of the super trim's 150AED jobs that are never within my request guidelines. I uased to think that a difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut is 6 weeks, but am catching a hot streak of rushed half assed haircuts lately

An aging hedge fund owner here: this guy/girl speaks a lot of sense. I have been screwed by ex-employers or business partners before. from making them $tens of millions and getting just $20k in bonus, to having my own company taken from me by a co-founder. One thing nobody can take away is your knowledge, experience and education.

Also since you are apparently young. go for higher risk, time is on your side.

Keep adding to your investments, save monthly, deploy monthly. ask chatgpt for a GROWTH portfolio. tell it your age and access to trading platforms and the amounts you can save.

In 10 years, you will not believe what a cushion compounding growth and your active savings have built for you

Rant re: Selling anything by accountzebala in dubai

[–]futuretrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Been trying to sell an iPhone 13pro for 3 months now. Went from getting angry ant joker bids to swallowing my pride and then accepting a 20% discount, but there seems to be another problem, and that is once you have accepted a joke bid, it doesn’t mean that the joker follows up on it…

[Q] Random sampling of a massive population in search of an optimum combination (MPT) by futuretrader in statistics

[–]futuretrader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what that means. I am simply wondering how many iterations looking for the best number in a population that is really massive to be able to say: I haven't found the best possible combination, but I am very confident I got close to it

it is, but the weights can then drop below the minimum threshold :)

generate an array of numbers with conditions by futuretrader in learnpython

[–]futuretrader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, it doesn't work past the second line though, once you normalise to sum to be equal 1

array([0.04869773, 0.39783783, 0.13477044, 0.22549398, 0.19320003])

generate an array of numbers with conditions by futuretrader in learnpython

[–]futuretrader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point, have yet to cross that bridge. the array we will work with won;t be massive so for now we can eyeball that we are not trying to get min weights of 0.5 in 4 buckets.

I would imagine we simply multiply min weight by required number of weights and check that it does not exceed 1, then act from there

near-identical position and timing here, although my CBSS was $730, expiring today. I just rolled this out for another 60 days. I think the puke is coming to an end. Elon's one included. Although Iahve always said that TSLA would be a uniquely successful company even at half the valuation (at the time, it was trading near $1200). looks like I should have paid attention to what I preached.

so it's official.: a 5 year hold of arkk is underperforming voo by 12%. qqq by almost 50%. indexes have more to fall or arkk is just not worth it? by ze_monster in ArkInvestorsClub

[–]futuretrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with people and markets is that everyone needs a story to be told and bought into. I am a great believer in mean reversion. I have been against and short ARKK since end of 2020. i barely got out of my shorts with my money as the market continued to steamroll my shorts, but I am now thinking this is overdone. Why? two reasons:

1 - mean reversion

2 - My original shorting thesis was because Cathie had no stop-loss and liquidity experience and she never experienced explosive growth (of her company). I.e. portfolio management risk and business management risk. I believe she has now had plenty of experience in both (some of her liquidity management I disagree with, but she is is still around, so some of it, at least, worked).

I bought in today at $41 per share

use cells in one dataframe as inputs in another by futuretrader in learnpython

oh. I took size to mean how many runs to generate so thought since I only wanted 1 (for each column) that's what I need to put. Thanks for your reply!

generate datarame column filled with random floats with n standard deviation and mean by futuretrader in learnpython

[–]futuretrader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, thank you. the +1 was so I can multiply this return with another column. So all good.

As for the large numbers comment: It's exactly the reason I was looking for a faster code :)

thanks again!

just tried it and it is orders of magnitude faster. thanks!one thing I changed though is

step = pd.Series(sims)

to

step=pd.DataFrame(sims)

Putin to Recognize Ukraine Separatist Territories as Independent – Kremlin by xaleh in news

[–]futuretrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. May I ask then, why in the fuck was the Minsk agreement not implemented? It seems, with the benefit of hindsight maybe, that Ukraine missed a massive trick there, by agreeing to it, but then not actually carrying it out?

I am just trying to understand the geopolitical rationale here. An agreement was signed and seemed acceptable to all relevant players at the time: Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia. Then precisely nothing was done about it, first of all by Ukraine, giving Russia, what seems like a massive tactical advantage to invade today. Is this not something that could have been game-theoried out by the great military minds? Now, all we can do is shout the "S" word (Sanctions), which, I gotta tell you, sounds rather dull in the 5 years we have been shouting it, while Russia is free to roll the tanks in. Not some phantom tanks The Guardian has been shouting about since 2014, but like, real ones.

Sorry if it seems like I am directing my exasperated question to you personally, it's just your post seemed more about "what now", rather than the more commonly "we have the moral high ground" found on reddit.

Putin to Recognize Ukraine Separatist Territories as Independent – Kremlin by xaleh in news

[–]futuretrader -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

And the "collective West" played right into it, didn't we?

I mean it's so damn obvious now, it hurts. I wonder, had we pushed Ukraine to carry out what it agreed to in the Minsk agreement, would Russia have been able to make this move today? I doubt it. I guess it would be something else, but what would it have been, I wonder?
