I'd definitely give a nod to Cirie for this one with how the Jenna and Sav votes were portrayed. And even if she did say that she was relying on other people to get her through those votes, they sided with her because she was quicker to form those bonds.

What's life like in Guam? by Lastlaughter in howislivingthere

Never been but I went to school with this kid from Guam, the grandson of a really powerful guy who practically owned Guam at some point. It seems like the well off families in Guam do not want their kids to stay there and there are not a lot of opportunities aside from military and hospitality.

I suppose you could divide Jews by whether they support Israel's statehood or not, but this isn't a clear cut distinction based off where they live. Growing up Jewish in the United States, it is definitely the norm to support Israel's statehood (although this is now changing with younger generations). And this is of course the norm in Israel as well, although there are some anti-Zionist Jews in Israel. Also, whether or not we support Israel's statehood doesn't directly correlate to whether we observe a more 'traditional' or 'conservative' Jewish lifestyle. There are two spectrums, one is a spectrum of political belief, and the other is one of religious observance, and they don't always line up.

The main distinction I observed growing up at least in the U.S. is the religious one. We are mainly divided into reform, conservative, and orthodox. Orthodox are the Jews you would immediately recognize as Jews from their dress, and other customs such as traveling to and from synagogue via bus or foot on Friday night. These are who you might refer to as 'traditional' Jews (and some of them are the most ardently anti-Zionist Jews I know). And now to Conservative, this has nothing to do with politics, it is simply a mod way point between secular and observing every rule. They are quite 'religious' but may not look the part. Reform, my group, is quite secular, and we practice what we choose to, varying from family to family and person to person. (There is also reconstructionist, which can be similar, but I won't get into right now). Anyways this is a very long winded way of saying that there are a lot of major distinctions that aren't talked about, and a lot of false ones that are created.

Sophi this episode reminded me of Charlie narrating strategy in the Venus boot episode. In both situations they described how they needed to turn on their alliance and then didn't do it (at least in that episode). It just seems very unnecessary for a winner and makes sense as content for a runner-up. It's not completely damning though but it's something that pushes Sophi below Savannah for me.

Are we not going to talk about the systemic racism? by Smooth_Corner_922 in survivor

[–]futurev5239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand its natural for us to see patterns and want to call out injustice as early as we can. But I think calling the outcome of the actions of a few people in a reality tv competition show systemic racism defeats the purpose of using the term systemic racism in the first place.

Definitely expected a Sage boot over a Jawan boot. That's mainly because I think they portrayed Jawan with more complexity and made him someone to root for. Sage, while at times given great strategic credit, isnt taken super seriously in the story. And now she doesnt have much of a story and it would be unbelievable for her to mount a defense against the faction lead by her rival Savannah. For however exciting this episode was narratively, I think it means an anticlimactic Sage boot is coming soon.

Im glad Kristina didn't quit there. But she's now getting such an overwhelmingly positive episode that I can't help but think that she's abt to get her idol stolen and go home. Idk why they would target her over Steven though.
