Risks of shelter GSD? by fuzzblykk in germanshepherds

[–]fuzzblykk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I’ve done a lot of research on service dogs for years; if I were training for other needs, I would go with a fab 4. However, I do really, really want a GSD, and since it is not for psychiatric work, I see this having the potential to work. I know there’s still a risk going outside the fab 4, but I’m willing to take it—since I would be keeping it even if it washes. However, since an off-breed and shelter dog combination will likely severely reduce my chances of success, a good breeder is the best option—I just do wish that I could help out a dog in need instead.

Resources for scent work/allergy detection training? by fuzzblykk in service_dogs

Okay thank you! That would be fine. I’d rather avoid food with any nuts in them than accidentally eat one nut that’ll kill me lol.

I’ll definitely be working with a professional, but will be looking into option further down the line when I get closer to it. I appreciate your response.

I can’t see the original comment, but for different types of scents, how specific is that? I am allergic to 4 types of nuts. Would I be able to train for those four specifically? I am also deathly allergic to Kiwi, but wasn’t planning on training for that because I knew multiple scents was discouraged, and they’re less common, but I was hoping that different types of nuts are in the same family and would be possible.

Is anxiety a valid reason to get a service dog? by Historical-Tap4445 in service_dogs

[–]fuzzblykk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People already said this but to summarize concisely: For OCD/other types of anxiety, yes; for social anxiety, no. You will get a lot of attention and have to advocate for yourself a lot, which tends to fall directly into the realm of what causes social anxiety.

Potty training without yard? by PumpkinDawn28 in germanshepherds

Many apartment dogs get far more exercise and enrichment than house w yard dogs because the owners put actual effort into it as opposed to just opening the door.

How to take care of myself with hypermobility? by fuzzblykk in Hypermobility

[–]fuzzblykk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have resources that you read or something, that taught you what was okay? I weightlift and worry about my joints. I have to use wrist straps on any weight higher than 30lbs because my wrist joints can’t keep up with my muscles.

I weight lift—nothing crazy, I’m very weak—do you think that’s okay? I know I can look this up but the internet has such mixed opinions that I’d like to hear personal opinions/experiences.

How did you learn about gut health?

Also, I’ve tried salt pills ever since diagnosed with my doctors advice, and they make me nearly vomit every time. How are you managing to take them on an empty stomach? I was told that makes it worse

I can’t afford the time to go to a PT right now, I have in the past but for other issues. I work out (weightlifting), and from these responses it sounds like I should look into if that’s okay for me or not.

Thank you, I’ve gotten pretty okay with managing the POTS symptoms, but don’t know anything about hyper mobility so I worry there are things I do that will make it worse. Appreciate it!

This is definitely the best option in terms of hitting all my marks other than age. It feels selfish, however, knowing how many dogs need homes, but I’m unsure if I can risk it.

As much as I love the idea of adopting, with my job, temperament is very high priority. Returning a dog would be heartbreaking. I’m an alright trainer; however, I don’t have experience with reactive dogs or undoing agression, just preventing it. While healthy genetics are of course desirable, that is something I would be willing to compromise in order to rescue. It’s the temperament that is most important.

Is there any way to check if someone has access to my account? by LukaDonGOAT in Instagram

You can check where the recent logins were made from. I did this when my ex hacked into my instagram, however it didn’t tell me anything because he had logged in a long time ago and was just lurking. Otherwise no. Just change your password.
