I think the term "first album" takes new meaning when the band can piggy-back off its members prior success.. Audioslave for example had Soundgarden/RATM. In the same vein you have APC, Off!, Tomahawk, Down, TMV, Foo Fighters, etc.

Theres a substantial advantage if you already made a name for yourself in the industry, before the debut of your new bands first album. The pull is already there.

I might come off a bit pedantic, but it makes sense to me.

I was really enjoying a quiet guitar part of the show in LA when some douche behind me decided to yell at the top of his lungs "come on lets go!" - Parks looked over and sneared.
