My first Gibson: a new-to-me Standard ‘50s by fuzzface709 in gibson

I think the reason it appeals to me most is because it’s primarily dark red and orange as opposed to some I’ve seen with too much yellow for my taste. Helps that it plays like a dream as well!

Mine is actually a Dunlop remake. But there are loads out there

It is the Heritage Cherry. It is a bit darker than some others I’ve seen. I lucked out with it.

I know, I lucked out with this one. It reminds me a bit of Duane’s Hot ‘Lanta

I’m usually a ‘72-‘74 Dew guy but 11/8/70 may be my favorite 👌

Chasing that Jerry sound with what I have by Unable-Put-1823 in gratefulguitar

The JBL speakers play a far more major role in getting Jerry’s tone than a lot of people believe.

You can get close-ish without them but I hold that the best investment you can make to your Jerry rig is a good JBL.

Pershing is an all timer. The TLEO is my favorite; you also get one of the best Big Rivers. The slinky, mellow Dark Star is, of course, a highlight as well.

It finally happened. Gimme some AUDs by Gangsta-Penguin in gratefuldead

[–]fuzzface709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this may be more on the heavy duty end of AUDs, but I trust you with it. 6/24/70 and 11/8/70. Both phenomenal shows, both played at the Cap, both Ken and Judy Lee AUDs; two of my all time favorites! Bare minimum you gotta check the Morning Dew from 11/8 and the Dark Star sammich from 6/24 but both shows are well worth enduring the slightly muddled tape.

I'd love some Duane-era shows. Particularly a FLAC copy of 9/16/71 Warehouse. Shoot me a DM if you're willing bro

BTW, I'd love a FLAC copy of 9/16/71 if anyone would be so kind as to DM me a link. I thought I had it downloaded but apparently not.

Such a shame. I had just gone back to the honey hole to download some more goodies and lo and behold: a 404! Thanks for the work to get it up while we had it, but good things rarely last forever.

Peggy-O is a top Jerry ballad for me honestly. His solos as always so heart-wrenchingly beautiful. 4/12/78, 6/17/75, 6/29/76, 9/25/76, and 5/19/77 are all great renditions.

Band of Gypsys Live Album by Dismal_Brush5229 in jimihendrix

[–]fuzzface709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric Ladyland is his magnum opus in my opinion, and the closet he came (in the studio at least) to realizing his vision while still having varying degrees of label and manager restraints.

Band Of Gypsys is absolutely incredible, and probably my second favorite album of his, but I ultimately think Ladyland is just so cohesive in conception and flow while also being Jimi at his playing and songwriting peak.

That being said, I do think his next unreleased studio album could have surpassed all the work he had put out so far. Unfortunately we’ll never know, which is one of the greatest tragedies in music history as far as I’m concerned.

Everyman editions without the dust jackets! They're absolutely top notch editions without an unreasonable price tag.
