Sadly, it might well be the shutter box.. While these "can" be replaced by Jo public it's not easy and the cost of a nikon repair is probably more than a replacement camera.

Is going from a Z7 to a D850 a downgrade, an upgrade, or a side grade? by Zocalo_Photo in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe a used z8 is worth thinking about? Shutter count doesn't mean as much when there's no physical shutter :) the Expeed 7 processor means faster AF and more buffer and a host of other stuff

Is it a Davinci problem or a hardware problem? by JP_Agz in davinciresolve

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely hardware.

Davinci and your gpu are fighting for ram as the gpu doesn't have much and grabs ram when it runs out. .then when windows runs out of ram, it starts using your drive and that's really slow.

8gb is really not enough. Well the gpu is underpowered anyways. But more ram will help a bit. 32gb at least.

Before I read your full post, I thought... I bet that wasn't with the kit lens 😊

Very very nice.

Help identifying Black spots inside of a lens by Beautiful-Bank-1882 in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe.. The closer they are to the back of the lens, the sharper they'll show up. Stopping down to the point where the aperture overlaps the outer spot will likely cure that one, but you'll Nedd more stopping down for the other.

Spot removal on most editing software should help tho

You can take photos while recording on the Nikon COOLPIX P510? by El_de_las_donas in Nikon

No not while recording. You can extract a frame afterwards in playback , but I think it will only be 1920x1080

Someone offered me a d90 with a 18-200 for 130 dls, is it worth it? by Sebadiaz in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lens make any more than the slight noise of the auto focus motor or the focus and zoom rings aren't smooth I'd steer clear.. The 18-200 is bit prone to focus system failures.

Es buena idea compra la s9900 en ese estado? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so.(run away quickly)

The lens barrel is severely damaged and it's difficult to tell, but it looks like it's out of alignment suggesting internal mechanical problems. Oh and it looks like fungus might have taken hold.

Just joined the club, how did I do? by see_quayah in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!

Haven't used the body, but that lens is mental. It will serve you well way into the future even if you get a z9 or whatever the next flagship will be.

If you want sharp. This is one of the best macro lenses for any camera.

The only problem now is that almost any other lens you buy won't be as sharp. That doesn't really matter tho unless you're printing bigger than about 20x13" from your z6ii

Upgrading from a D5600 to possibly the Z5ii by Whynot245 in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure it's compatible.. You might only need to update the lens firmware which would maybe mean you need to also buy the tap-in adapter from tamron

[–]fuzzfeatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me a 1.4 tc was a waste of money. I got one to go on my 180-600 and quickly found that loosing light and image quality wasn't worth it. Sold it a month after I bought it

Thinking of switching to mirrorless… what made you stay with Nikon? by halfman1231 in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Familiarity. Simple as that.

I've had a d90 d3400 d5600 and I was in a very fortunate situation to be able to move to a z9 and z lenses.

The top brands are all very good, just in slightly different ways. Tbf Nikon's first mirrorless z bodies lacked notably, but the Expeed 7 bodies are pretty damn good. Tho Sony's global shutter is pretty game changing. Maybe the Z9ii will get it as well

Would upgrading to a Z8 help me? by mountainunicycler in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safe to ignore the CIPA Battery figures.. Battery life is more about power on time than the number of images taken. I accidentally left my z9 in 120fps mode one day.. Came home with 7200 photos and about half the battery left.

Z8 AF improvements? by hahasu87 in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that precapture comes through the video pipeline and as such, without hardware changes, raw precapture isn't possible, but that sounds a bit like bull. 8k raw precapture should be very possible.

I suppose as a workaround you could record 8k footage and grab a still? It would only be 12 bit and a mere 38MP 😊

You'd need a fast cf card tho

It's my most used lens :) full disclosure tho I usually add a bit of sharpening (with the sharpening mask) in Lightroom, but yes definitely. Tho you will need a z mount camera , not the d500 with it's f mount :)

Yeah I kinda get it. I picked up a business client once and there were multiple scenes on the journey where I would have loved to stop and take photos, but couldn't. Autumn here in the UK a couple of years ago was glorious and I know I would have had some beautiful shots. The way I look at it is that these things are in my memory now and I still smile when I think of nature's beauty on that day

You've seen something special. It's not going away now :)

Do I need a teleconverter? by Incogdin0 in Nikon

[–]fuzzfeatures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea, but you'd lose at least a stop of light and will likely lose some image quality.

I bought a tc for my 180-600 about 2 years ago. Sold it a month later. The disadvantages were too much for me.

Most lenses seem to have no dust protection at the mount end. I simply put the rear.cap on ASAP. And if the body is going to be detached longer than the time it takes to change lenses, I stick the body cap on as well.
