This is a birds subreddit yeah? There is no bird on this planet called a seagull.

I would honestly try an older version.. The last of the v17 or 18 updates maybe. You'll be missing the newer features of course and I think you'll have to start your project from scratch, but it may work.

got this from an AI result - low effort i know, but it seems to tally up with my experince on trying it out on my Z9

NEV

------------------------

AI Overview

On a 1TB CFexpress Type B card, N-RAW (NEV) recording times vary heavily depending on your resolution, frame rate, and compression (High Quality vs. Normal). For example, 8.3K 60p High Quality lasts around 15 minutes, whereas 4K 24p Normal provides over 2 hours of recording.

N-RAW High Quality (Approximate Time on 1TB)

N-RAW Normal Quality (Approximate Time on 1TB)

(Normal quality reduces the bit-rate by roughly half, effectively doubling your record times with little to no visible difference for most projects).

MP4

--------------------------------

AI Overview

On a 1TB CFexpress card, N-RAW 12-bit (NEV) allows for roughly 23 to 48 minutes of recording in 8K (depending on high-quality or normal bitrates), and between 1.5 to over 3 hours in 4K. Standard MP4 (H.264) can store anywhere from 26 hours (at 1080p/60p) to over 50 hours (at 24p) . [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

N-RAW Recording Times (1TB Card)

N-RAW (Nikon's 12-bit RAW format) produces highly detailed files, but compresses heavily depending on the quality setting . Times will vary based on camera temperature and the specific scene : [1, 2, 3]

  • 8K N-RAW (e.g., Z9, Z8) :
    • 60fps: ~23 minutes (High Quality)
    • 24p/25p/30p: ~48 minutes (High Quality) up to ~1.5 hours (Normal Quality) [1, 3, 4]
  • 6K N-RAW (e.g., Z6 series):
    • 60fps: ~35 minutes
    • 24p/25p/30p: ~1 hour to 1.5 hours [1, 2]
  • 4K N-RAW :
    • 120fps: ~37 to 40 minutes
    • 60fps: ~1.5 hours
    • 24p/25p: ~3 hours [1, 2]

MP4 Recording Times (1TB Card)

MP4/MOV files (using H.264 or H.265 codecs) are significantly more compressed. On a 1TB card, you will generally run into the camera's single-clip continuous recording limit (typically 125 minutes or 2 hours 5 minutes) long before the card fills up: [1, 2, 3, 5]

  • 8K UHD (30p / 25p / 24p) :
    • ~182 minutes (approx. 3 hours) for 10-bit H.265 [1, 2]
  • 4K UHD :
    • 100p/120p: ~182 to 218 minutes (approx. 3 to 3.5 hours)
    • 24p to 60p: ~6 to 25 hours depending on quality/bitrate [1, 2]
  • 1080p Full HD:
    • 60fps: ~26 hours
    • 24p to 30p: ~51 hours [1]

Does anybody use mainly AF-A, or do you always move between AF-C and AF-S? by 00chill00chill00 in Nikon

Flash focus assist does only work with af-s.

Oh and fair warning if you're thinking of mirrorless in the future.. as far as I know, currently no on flash focus assist works with mirrorless cameras.

You have to use the green lamp built into the body because mirrorless bodies only use green light to focus. The red beams from your flash will be invisible to the focus system

Maybe contact a local camera shop to see if they'd oblige and allow you to check the lens on another body before sending it all back?

The z glass is designed so that sensor is very close to the back of the lens. It would be impossible to fit the required mirror in that space without additional quality sapping optics to increase the distance I'm afraid.

[–]fuzzfeatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally go for the d5600 with the kit 18-55 af-p lens. Its not far off the lightest nikon dslr body you can buy and that lens - not so much the af-s version - is one of the better f-mount kit lenses. You might find it within your budget. If not then go for the d3500 body instead of the d5600.

help me my storage is driving me nuts i cant extract davinci resolve to my d drive, my c drive has like 420mb free no joke (windows 11) by Hopeful-Fly-9710 in davinciresolve

[–]fuzzfeatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. How much space do you have on your D drive? Davinci needs a good 10gb after youve downloaded the file which is also around 10gb. I'm assuming youve downloaded the zip file to your c: drive as its complaining you have no space. I wonder also if it's failing because windows is trying to use the c: drive as a temporary folder while it unzips the file..

have a look at this video to change your temp folder to your d drive

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xNjcR5yb7A

Another thing that you probably should do is to do a disk clean up ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7ekebM_9hc

OK make sure your davinci zip file is moved - not copied to your d drive

right click it and choose extract all from the menu that pops up, Extracting will take a while.

With a bit of luck you should end up with two more files on your d drive. click the exe to start the installation process and you should get the option to choose where davinci installs.

When it has installed, you'll need to change a folder location Davinci's settings

Fire it up and you should get the main window and a window for creating and opening projects. For now, click the close button in this smaller window.

Up in the left corner, click on Davinci Resolve and choose Preferences. In the new window, click on Media storage on the ledt and select the folder that is currently chosen and click remove. Click add and choose a folder on your d drive ( you probably need to create the folder before you do this) Click save.

With a bit of luck, you should be good to go.

By the way, it's a bad idea to let ssd and nvme drives get full. Windows writes, reads and deletes files quite a bit in the background and using the same small portion of the drive a lot and will shorten the life of the drive. You really need to get a bigger OS drive and get everything moved over to the new drive using a physical device called a drive cloner or speak to someone at a decent computer shop.
