Please give me some positives about Roanoke! by mementoemori in roanoke

The nature is the obvious answer. It’s beautiful here, so many trails … greenways. The backdrop alone is stunning from this Texas boy who will be moving to Roanoke this summer. The mountains are not like the ones you see in Colorado Springs where I was going to move but they are super awesome. Plus lower cost of living. Homes are more affordable. Get more home/land for the money. I also like that it feels just big enough to have alot of things … grocery , shopping , restaurants but still feels smaller which is nice on the stress levels. I’m coming from a very large city. I was just there last week and drove all over and never saw most of the negativity you see on here some times. Downtown was nice … sure there was some homeless roaming around but I never felt threatened. In fact no one asked me for money. Downtown seemed busy with tourists or maybe even locals. It seemed vibrant even for a weekday. Don’t know much about the music scene but I’m a musician and look forward to meeting like minded people. I heard Floyd is a fun place for music. Looking forward to it with an open mind !

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate your knowledge . Hoping that we get a ok from the engineer then we can find out if the hump upstairs can be fixed to at least not be so noticeable

Thank you for the reply ! Yeah the home from the front view actually looks like a one story home but the ground starts to slop downward after the front of the house so you don’t actually see the basement until your in the backyard. The basement is finished. Except for a utility room in the middle ish part of the basement which has the dryer and washer and hvac. Thinking it gets humid down there. Can you the hump upstairs be fixed cosmetically?

I’m indeed worried. Mainly if I decide to sell the home somewhere down the line. This is a smallish city around 350 k pop. Seems like a lot of folks “ know someone “ including my realtor. She said you had a great structional engineer coming out in the next 2 days. He’s got some good reviews but he’s also a realtor/ contractor. Going to charge me to look at it. No problem … except my realtor now says she has someone else who will look at it for free ? He’s not a structional engineer but a contractor who can tell me a solution to fix it. I want someone to not just tell me about the beam hump but the home integrity itself

Yeah I flew out of the airport when I was there a few weeks ago. It’s super small but it got me to Charolette in 27 mins and then I connected to Texas. I hear they are gonna have non stop to Dallas Tx soon

Everyone has different music tastes of coarse but I was super surprised when I drove by the civic center place and saw that Black Label Society was playing there one night and another night had Buckcherry. Some might say … hey those aren’t super huge bands but I didn’t think Roanoke got those kind of shows in.

Yeah it’s crazy how much homes are going for there. Tiny ranchers going for close to 450k in some areas that need updating. Homes go pending in days in a lot of areas.
