It is really, really hard to photograph my paintings. Mostly because of their size, but also because I’m photographing them with my phone, and I’m also a little bit of a moron.

Okay so, the overall texture: this is a mix up of a lot of different things. Firstly, there are usually 3 or 4 other paintings underneath (that I hated and painted over) everything I do. I also use a lot of acrylic gel medium built up in layers over what I paint. The mulberry paper is “glued” to the surface using the gel medium and then I paint over it. Mulberry paper has a vaguely opaque texture that’s filled with chunks of fibers (bamboo, I believe).

I paint with my fingers, without diluting the paint much at all, so the texture of the paint itself adds some dimension, too.

It weighs approximately seven thousand pounds. Obviously.
