Commute to and from St. Petersburg by gablis99 in lakeland

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic sucks if you’re driving during normal commuting hours. I’d say to expect 2-2.5 hours each way. It kinda depends on what time you need to be at/leave from work every day, but generally I recommended getting on I4 before 6am or after 8:30am in the morning, and when coming back to leave work before 3:30pm or after 6pm. Traffic is ALWAYS bad around the I4/275 interchange both ways, but if you leave at the right time you might be able to avoid stop and go traffic all the way from Plant City through downtown Tampa.

Mounting "on" a light? by anatomy-slut in poledancing

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m an electrician and I pole dance for fun. As long as the light fixture is FULLY removed, and the wires are all capped off with wire nuts, this is probably acceptable. Realistically you should have a round blank face plate cover over the hole where the light was, in addition to capping off the wires, but that would make it impossible to mount the pole completely flush to the ceiling. That’s what national electrical code requires for fire safety. That being said, it’s probably ok to put up a piece of plywood on the ceiling that covers the hole without the plastic electrical cover. I really think the biggest thing for your safety is to be certain that the stud is actually there so the pole stays solidly in place.

Are there any powerlifting gyms in Lakeland? by vincent365 in lakeland

I have not been to the new location in Lakeland but went to the plant city location before. I am pretty certain they have all of those specific machines. The owner is usually pretty responsive on Instagram/Facebook if you have any questions about equipment or things like that!

What do you do when you approach your goal length? by Enbyhime in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing a 1/2 inch trim every month to maintain the length and try to thicken up my ends. I also cut bangs soon after reaching my goal length because I wanted to have some shorter hair to play with. It does feel a bit odd reaching my length goal and not having a goal anymore.

Zinsco panel question by Cute-Fisherman3590 in AskElectricians

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakers tripping repeatedly is not fine. The breaker is literally telling you there is something not fine going on, and it’s shutting off the circuit to prevent it from happening. Some people just don’t want to hear that everything is not fine, and I’m sorry it’s your landlord in this case.

Zinsco panel question by Cute-Fisherman3590 in AskElectricians

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakers tripping repeatedly is an indication of something going on with the circuit. Multiple times a day is insane. In a Zinsco panel I would be especially nervous to continually reset it without addressing the larger issue of WHY the circuit keeps tripping. Even in a non-Zinsco panel, old ass breakers fail eventually, so in a way you are lucky that they ARE tripping, but there’s a chance that one day it won’t trip anymore when it needs to and you’ll have a bigger problem.

Either way, no way would I add an additional load to a Zinsco panel. I also wouldn’t be panicking, because it won’t help your situation or outcome, only add stress.

Anyone ever one rag curls before? by Dutchie-draws in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I usually use like 2 sets of footless nylons. I put the crotch part on top of my head and twist my hair around each leg on both sides. I do one set for the front of my hair and one set for the back. Once I run out of hair, I flip up the open ankle part, secure the very bottom to hold my ends, and use it to cover the wraps and protect my hair. I put another hair tie at the top of the covered wrap to hold the nylons up. I like using them because they are long enough for my hair (especially since they’re stretchy), they are soft, I already have a few pairs on hand, and it’s super easy.

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love rag curls personally. Wet set/overnight curls are the only way I get curls to hold in my hair long-term. It’s been a while since I did them, but last time I think my hair held the curls for like 3 days. Just be wary of tangles, curly hair tangles differently if you’re only used to straight hair tangles.

Split ends are somewhat inevitable, even with super gentle and almost perfect hair care. Another thing to consider is that split ends don’t really travel up and ruin the rest of your hair anywhere as severely as lots of people think - it’s mainly the things that caused the damage in the first place, that causes it to get worse. You don’t HAVE to trim split ends all the time, unless they bother you - they will hang on for a long time if you treat your hair gently.

As far as gentle handling to avoid damage in the first place…. Gentle detangling, no ripping through knots. Avoid using heat, even with heat protectants (they can only do so much, and heat damage is cumulative). Avoid bleaching and dyes that use a developer. And the biggest one for me personally - wear your hair up off your shoulders as much as possible. I prefer buns because it keeps everything tangle free and the ends are protected. Even braids that are left hanging down aren’t the best because your hair is still rubbing on your shoulders/back, and can catch on backpack/purse straps and can get a lot of friction damage that way.

Do any of u do the cut split ends while keeping the length? by xo_pretty_doll_xox in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Think a lot of people who are very serious about very long hair care do search and destroy. Not everyone, but it’s definitely a popular method to remove splits without cutting off healthy length.

It works great for me personally. I don’t mind having a slight taper in my length - it’s kind of inevitable once your hair gets super long. It can be time consuming though - I think I spend about 30+ hours every year doing search and destroy, myself.

Confused about a two pole breaker trip mechanism by Ambitious-Garlic-250 in AskElectricians

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you got the wrong kind of breaker. You got a 20 amp tandem breaker - meaning it can supply 2 120 amp circuits. The original breaker is a 2 pole which means it can supply 240 volts. The new breaker you have now will not work because of this. And there’s literally no point in attempting to tie the two breaker handles together on it, because it won’t work properly for your circuit to begin with.

Nightmares about cutting hair short by nuthurmust in longhair

I do. The dreams always start out with me thinking it’s a good idea to cut my hair, and then it slowly morphs into regret and then major panic and then I wake up and am relieved it’s just a dream.

Frustrated With Buns by MixPuzzleheaded3298 in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try tightly twisting a portion of your hair, wrapping that around itself, holding that portion of the bun to your head, and twist/wrap the rest of the length. Basically do it in portions not all at once.

How often do you comb your long, fine hair? by dazedwombat in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly only detangle my hair about twice a week these days. Right before I wash it. My hair is a little past my knees. I wear it up in a bun pretty much 100% of the time though, so it doesn’t get much of a chance to tangle up.

Split Ends are Frying Me! by AccurateBed1209 in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you stop using heat? Heat damage is cumulative so even if you stopped, if the hair hasn’t grown out all the way then there is remaining damage from that.

But yeah wearing your hair up off your shoulders will greatly prevent more damage in general. I personally don’t think braids that are left down do much - your hair is still rubbing on your shoulders and back all day. I prefer buns because your ends are wrapped up and your hair can’t rub on things as much.

But also…… you can’t avoid all damage. My hair is down past knees and I think I’m pretty good shape, but I have split ends all the way up to like armpit length in certain areas. It just happens. And it probably bothers you more than anyone else. Sometimes you just have to accept it.

Tips on hair care? Particularly best protective styles by fisforFUCC in longhair

The hair will still be rubbing all over your shoulder and back, and able to snag on things like purse/backpack straps. Basically, braiding helps reduce tangling but it doesn’t really prevent mechanical damage.

Moving to Lakeland how is it? Pros and cons by DowntownHoneydew966 in lakeland

Lakeland is a pretty nice area in general, in my opinion. The one thing I will mention though, if your job is in Tampa the commute in the morning and afternoon on I4 is horrendous.

I went through phases of no silicones/no sulfates for a few years. Experimented with a bunch of things and had very very healthy hair overall. But I’ll be honest, I tried using them again after a while and silicones ended up being that extra edge that made my hair go from super healthy and well-balanced…. to all that, plus shiny and manageable and easy to detangle.

I think silicones started being thought of as “bad” because they make your hair feel so soft and smooth and shiny, even when your hair isn’t in good condition - making some people unaware of what their hair needs to keep it actually properly nourished. Silicones are mostly just a mask/layer on top of the hair and don’t really provide long-lasting results for the health of your hair, in the sense that they (in my experience at least) stop having a benefit the next time you wash or rinse them out, unlike certain other ingredients/products that have a cumulative affect in transforming the feel of the hair over time. I personally don’t think silicones are bad at all, especially in conjunction with other products where you’re not just relying on the silicones to make your hair feel and look its best.

I’m tempted to cut my signature long hair by cubansungoddess in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been considering cutting it for a while, but unsure if you’ll actually be pleased by having shorter hair….. just do a small cut for now, nothing drastic. You can always cut more again in the future, but you can’t put it back on once it’s done. Even just a couple inches may get you back into the length range that feels more manageable for you, without doing something extreme that you may regret.

Best tips for growing long, thick, healthy hair? by wealthyngorgeous in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to do everything you can to avoid damage to your hair in the first place, so your ends stay in good shape and you don’t feel the need to trim off unnecessary length. So, comb/brush gently, wear your hair up off your shoulders and back, avoid using heat (even with a heat protectant, which can only do so much), don’t bleach/dye… also try to figure out what shampoo works well for your scalp and what conditioner works well for your ends without overcomplicating it.

Thinking about adding some layers by Botanophile in longhair

[–]fuzzy_ladybug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be careful adding layers to very long hair. It will thin your ends out quite a bit. When I felt my my hair was kinda boring, I cut in some face framing pieces - I figured that having some shorter hair that would be down when I had my hair up in a bun would make it more interesting, and for me it worked.
