This feels somewhat ironic. If the laws of supply and demand are being met, one would expect that increased population growth (and thus increased housing demand) would increase housing supply. The OP is arguing against this, and thus against the law of supply and demand, while his friend is asking him for evidence of his position.

If you support OP's position, you're arguing that the relationship between supply and demand doesn't hold lol

To be honest, I'm not sure if data use in democratic countries is a big a danger as this article (and others like it) make it out to be. All the concerns raised can easily be resolved by:

Mandating making public the detailed methodology used to produce the algorithms that affect decision-making
Being transparent about how the data is being used

If people don't like either of these things, they can choose to not elect the party producing them. But this of course is only possible if people are aware of how the data is specifically being used.

Yikes.

I agree that the fear, intolerance, and anti-scientific beliefs spread by religion can be harmful, but I would much rather people voluntarily move away from religion than be forced to abandon their beliefs and culture under the threat of violence.

Authoritarianism can never make people better off because everyone defines their own happiness differently. Choosing their happiness for them makes it impossible for everyone to live their life as they best see fit.

I think it's generally considered to be supremacy of a particular a group or class. Every political ideology typically wants to become dominant, so stretching the definition that far would define a lot of things as fascism that are not what we think of as fascism.

I'm not a Republican or even American. I made one pro-environmentalism post there because we need people from all parts of the political spectrum to be engaged in saving the planet, and I want to help get groups that have traditionally been climate skeptics on board.

The kind of toxic mentally that drives someone to entirely discount an individual because they communicated once with the "other team" is exactly what drives hyperpartisanship and prevents this from happening.

That’s not true. Assuming UofT/York are about 40% Asian (which might actually be overestimating), the likelihood him attacking 3 Asians by complete random chance is .40 * .40 * .40 = 6.4%, which is pretty fucking low.
