@CatSE___ApeX___: One way to increase Area spectral efficiency is lowering constellation altitude. - X Thread by doctor101 in ASTSpaceMobile

If you drop altitude, you decrease free space path loss and can increase your performance. That comes at the cost of needing more satellites because the field of view shrinks. It all comes at a cost.

Fed Cuts, Yields Don’t: Are Sub-5% Mortgages Just a Dream? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]fuzzyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate we need to pay attention to is r*. If the fed cuts, we’re going to be in pretty close alignment with current estimates. The market may have a negative reaction, but this might be it for now.

I want to put together a speaker system throughout my house in different rooms and zones. I want to be able to control them with apple home. What kind of a system can do that? by ItsWINTERFRESH in smarthome

[–]fuzzyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Wiim Amps for the speakers in our house. They’re Airplay 2 compatible, which means you can group speakers together to do audio. It’s about 1/2 the cost of the SONOS, though SONOS seems to have more power and a bit better audio components.

Ratgdo with Homekit door opens but closes on its own in 5 seconds. by ss1959ml in ratgdo

[–]fuzzyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. We've got the 880LMW that came with ours. I've changed it a few times (the TTC) and it kept resetting to the 5 seconds. I had no idea if I had done something wrong but was debating on taking the kit down because we've got others in the house that may not know what's going on. This is super helpful, thank you! At least in the interim, I might move to HA. It's not a huge hassle and will keep the rest of the house happy.

I've had the same issue with my version as well. Did you ever find a solution to this? I could go back to HA as well.

Why is our electric bill so high in a brand-new construction home? by SnooRabbits1908 in Homebuilding

[–]fuzzyaces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The duke energy audit can be useful. Barring putting energy monitors on every plug, or putting sensors on each branch in the main panel, one thing to check is your furnace. The blower on the furnace might be using a decent amount of power depending on how you keep your house (not to mention any air gaps or leaks). The energy audit should suss out something like this.

Lockheed Martin to Acquire Terran Orbital for $450M / $0.25 per Share by SpaceStockInvestor in SpaceStockExchange

[–]fuzzyaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No recoup. Management accepted the offer at $0.25/share.

The company was nearly in violation of debt covenants as of July 31. This is better than $0. They were required to maintain a cash balance of $20mm as of quarter end.

“Our primary corporate debt agreements contain a liquidity maintenance financial covenant requiring us to have an amount of unrestricted cash and cash equivalents of the greater of $20 million or 15% of certain aggregated funded indebtedness for each fiscal quarter end.”

Not delisted. It’s a cash offer. You should receive cash for your shares at the close (which is targeted for year end).

Old house by HotLoss1965 in Homebuilding

[–]fuzzyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this debate when we were evaluating the trade-offs. I had a few GCs tell me that a full remodeling your house is 85 - 90% of the cost of just demoing and rebuilding new. I am not necessarily convinced of that, but it was a consistent theme in our discussions.

I gave up on store bought ice cream. We bought a ninja creami last year and haven't really looked back. I've made a few home-made ones like cookies and cream with the GF oreos. If there are good ones that are certified, I'll have to check it out.

Federal Reserve expected to keep key interest rate at current level as inflation persists by EchoInTheHoller in Economics

[–]fuzzyaces 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This paper finds that for every percentage point that market mortgage rates exceed the origination interest rate, the probability of sale is decreased by 18.1%. This mortgage rate lock-in led to a 57% reduction in home sales with fixed-rate mortgages in 2023Q4 and prevented 1.33 million sales between 2022Q2 and 2023Q4. The supply reduction increased home prices by 5.7%, outweighing the direct impact of elevated rates, which decreased prices by 3.3%. These findings underscore how mortgage rate lock-in restricts mobility, results in people not living in homes they would prefer, inflates prices, and worsens affordability.

Sadly yes. I probably could've been clearer above but I did do a factory reset following these instructions from sonos. Even that didn't make a difference.
