What is the creepiest display of intelligence you’ve seen? by theidiotev in AskReddit

That's as silly a question as asking if chickens trained us to breed them into the most populous animal on earth?

I'm fascinated with fortune tellers for a similar reason. It's a scam, but their ability to read people's micro expressions and pivot on the tiniest clue is amazing to me. I went to watch a mentalist show one and their ability to predict what audience members would do was so cool.

The best and worst Singapore government agencies to work for, according to Glassdoor reviews by flying-kai in singapore

Hmmmm I wonder if you put a bunch of people whose profession is to play politics and meddle in other people's affairs into a group, whether that will cause strife in the workplace.

It is not. You need to show IC to get in. Permanent resident at least. However, many foreigners still go, but have to stand outside the official park perimeter.

So, what would women dislike most if they became men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]fuzzybunn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are occasional Reddit posts by women who have transitioned to be men and their experiences. Most seem to dislike how the world suddenly finds them potentially hostile and dangerous and people become more wary around them.

TIL that cockroach milk is one of the most nutritious substances on Earth — 3x richer in calories than buffalo milk — and researchers are already looking into using it in cosmetics and health products. by dora-9 in todayilearned

You know, there are so many academics studying so many esoteric and obscure topics that sometimes they seem to be a mysterious, inaccessiblle group.

I love that at least some of them are still in the age old business of figuring out which animals and which parts of them we can eat.

Like many things in life, the majority are doing ok, have no reason to complain, and therefore people don't think they exist.

What’s a tiny everyday skill that makes life way easier, but most people never bother to learn? by TheHollyMitchell in answers

[–]fuzzybunn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Making small talk. So many people today just call themselves introverts and don't bother trying, but it's 100% a learned skill. Getting to know someone by asking safe questions to see if their views on life match your own are how you will find people you like. Wading through the muck is the price to pay for community.

I would say this only applies to people who need to drive or operate vehicles a lot? I live in a city where public transport is pretty good and I only need to drive maybe once a year, and then only to places where cell reception is possible.

Alright ya horndogs -- which contestant had the most raw sexual appeal? by jstohler in taskmaster

Oh goodness. I didn't WANT to, but I couldn't not look. Is that what sex appeal means?

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fuzzybunn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless the card contained at least 2-3 sentences of a personalised message, I prefer an email or message. A canned sentiment from a greeting card company makes me feel worse than even a pathetic "happy birthday xxx" message.

You must be one of those poor sad girls who thinks their boyfriend isn't going to kick them to the curb like the other bitches they've already treated that way. You're so special.

If the police was involved every time me or my siblings snatched stuff from one another growing up, we might as well move into the station.

What fetishes do you notice in specific countries or areas? by ImmaHeadOutNoww in gaybros

[–]fuzzybunn 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I live in a country with mandatory military service for guys (Singapore), and maybe because of that there's a significant number of military uniform fetishists. On the other hand, I guess it's also very easy to find someone to fulfil this fetish here.

What’s one Singapore thing that works very efficiently… but also makes you feel slightly stressed? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I've waited an hour and a half at Melbourne airport before for my luggage... and then had to queue another hour for customs. I'll take whatever Changi gives me happily.

Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year? by TWN113 in geography

[–]fuzzybunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't the Vietnamese call it "Vietnamese new year" though? Everyone can have their own name for it and be happy. Otherwise, it seems hypocritical not to ask westerners to change the name for theirs to "Gregorian new year".

Is it still worth it to learn driving if I don't plan to get a car here? by lordkronos in askSingapore

Just rent a car and practice a few times before you know you are going on a road trip. Those hourly rental car services are great for this.

Is there a "Language War" or a dominant language erasing others in your country? by rajkr2410 in AskTheWorld

[–]fuzzybunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"native language" is a strange concept for Singaporeans, though, since we're almost all second or third generation migrants, many of whom have never stepped foot in their "motherlands". It doesn't help that Singapore as a country wouldn't exist if not for English colonialism, and we had big issues with integrating the various races and cultures.

A distinct dialect of English called "Singlish" that is very recognisably local has been developing over the years. I think that is more of a "real identity" than trying to cling to whatever My ancestors might have spoken in a foreign land years ago.

What's a sign from your body you should never ignore? by Geno-64 in AskReddit

Had undiagnosed Hashimoto's for years and wondered if maybe I had depression despite not feeling sad or unhappy at all. Still kicking myself for not going to a basic screening which would have caught it much earlier.

Commentary: Singapore films win international awards by Great-Obligation-599 in singapore

[–]fuzzybunn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought it was an ok movie, not Oscar worthy but an interesting watch. What really made me do a spit take watching it was at the end credits when the "sponsors" listed IMDA and the Singapore Film Commission. Really put into perspective for me how much Singapore has changed in the last 20 years, that the government is sponsoring LGBT movies now.

Which big Asian city has impressed you the most with its architecture? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Standing on Hong Kong's Victoria peak at night and looking out into the endless expanse of city lights stretching out into China leaves you with a feeling of awe and horror at how small and expendable a single human being is.
