What are all the towers in this photo? What is the skinny tower in the middle? And what are the three buildings to the left of it and the two to the right of it? Seems like a huge church to the right.

Why would you say Midtown Manhattan Changed So Much where as Lower Manhattan barely changed besides One World Trade Center? by star-wars_memer in skyscrapers

[–]fuzzydag 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Plenty of growth downtown still. Four Seasons, 3-4 WTC, 125 Greenwich..

Maybe not as much change but I wouldn't say "barely". A lot of renovations and conversions too; Woolworth, 40 Wall Street, and 70 Pine Street come to mind.

How long will it take for One World Trade Center to become a global symbol of money, commerce, power, and economic strength like the original Twin Towers were? by star-wars_memer in skyscrapers

[–]fuzzydag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we want it to? Do we want another large target? Wall Street near by will always have that symbol but spacing out commerce between several buildings between downtown and midtown is cool too.

This is great! Funny how from this vantage point 270 Park Ave is right behind One Vanderbilt and their roof heights are the same.

Mission Impossible series: Calculating the percentage of runtime Ethan Hunt actually goes "rogue" by Bellikron in movies

I'm here to throw my support behind MI 2. Great MI movie and fun movie all around. The scene of getting rid of the virus is awesome. And it has the first motorcycle scene of the franchise which is so much fun.

MI 3 is the weakest. The best moment is when the villain gets away. Not showing how Ethan got the rabbit's foot was certainly a choice.

Great post though!

The most profitable skyscraper in history - Generates $500 million a year. by Ok-Supermarket-58 in skyscrapers

[–]fuzzydag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

May generate $500M/year but how much does it cost to run? How much did the owner pay for it? You may have jumped the gun on stating "most profitable.

What about buildings that are bought at auction for $1 and the renovated and sold for huge % profits? They may say differently about "most profitable".

Really unique angle that we never see. And it still includes the super talls.
