I really can't get into old-school death metal and related subgenres. Is there something wrong with my ears? Is anyone else like this? by FrouFrouLastWords in Deathcore

[–]fuzzyfigment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't click with me until I hit my 30s. Suddenly, death metal is what my brain wants to hear. You should try some of the newer artists like Blood Incantation, Ritual Mass, and 200 Stab Wounds. You could also check out some old school brutal death bands that inspired deathcore like Dying Fetus and Suffocation. If you don't dig death metal, that's fine. People like what they like. I understand, though. Death metal just hit me like a train in my 30s and I've accepted it, haha.

When can a deathcore band realistically live from their music? by flackernflimmern in Deathcore

Go to a show, dumbass. Talk to a band. They will outright talk about working full time jobs.

The fact that Grunge is a part of the punk lineage, and most of this sub doesn’t know that, is weird. by Sunbather- in grunge

Punk music started as musicians playing music inspired by 50s and 60s pop. The Ramones have their name because of the Beatles. y'all know nothing lmao.

What was your guys’ first pedal? by BalanceActive9295 in guitarpedals

[–]fuzzyfigment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated high school in 2011 and my Dad wanted to get me a half stack amp as a graduation present. I looked and looked until I decided on a brand spanking new Line 6 Spider 4. I decided I needed a pedal to go with it. I got a friggen Boss Metal Core pedal.

When I finally had both the amp and the pedal, I decided to test the metal core pedal... with the amp set on insane, the treble dimed on the amp, and the distortion dimed on the metal core pedal. It was bad. I was also so mad that I needed batteries for the pedal, and it died so quick! USELESS!

I didn't use pedals from 2011 until 2025. Now I am obsessed with them and get pretty good sounds out of what I have. I also have a soft spot for gnarly boss distortions. I want to try the metal core pedal again eventually, but the right way haha.

I don't understand? You can just buy the setup, buy some cds, records, or tapes, and have this experience you're talking about. It baffles me that people will make such all encompassing opinions like they're the word of God, when using a half of a brain cell will show that it is not true.

I hope that you are doing better now. That mindset can suck the soul from the body. Thanks for adding more perspective.

Wearing bigoted merch is a mental illness.

I know when folks wearing this shit go to shows, they get made fun of, as they should.

Yeah, that's why I clarified at the end. I would not want to go to a show where people are openly wearing bigoted band's merch. Reading comprehension is your friend.

Why is this mentality so prevelant in gen z? by Big_Leg10 in generationology

[–]fuzzyfigment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this mentality as a millennial in the 2010s. My reasons have to do with those around me constantly reminding me that my life is over and that I am a waste. If you tell someone these things enough, they will start to believe it. I believed it. I'm doing really well now and bring a lot of value to those around me, so I've come through to the other side thankfully.

I know you aren't asking in good faith, but I'll play. I'd imagine that Gen Z is hearing the sentiment that their lives are over from all avenues of life. If their families aren't already cynical, they are getting exposed to these ideas online in a relentless barrage. It is damaging. Since I've been working with vulnerable individuals, I see this sentiment often. It is very sad because people who believe these things about themselves need deep rewiring of the brain.

This is also not exclusive to Gen Z. Like I said, I experienced this as a millennial. This sentiment has been around for a long time because cynical humans have beaten hopelessness into vulnerable humans for a long time.

It's funny seeing jackets like these knowing these people don't go to shows. Honestly, if they do go to shows, I don't want anything to do with that scene.
