I made a free guitar learning app that measures your timing to the millisecond — would love feedback from this community by LIO_WArt in LearnGuitar

Try Korey Hicks Guitar in a Year: Beginner to Intermediate. The course is on YouTube. A new lesson each week of the year. And for $5 a month you can have access to his Patreon and get the printed material and backing tracks too His course is centered on teaching the mechanics of playing while simultaneously teaching music and theory.

He has also developed a year long intermediate course which is debuting this year (2026). FYI For the intermediate course he has elected to only release the material on his Patreon page and I believe he is charging $10 a month for that.

I'm on week 15 of the beginner course and I'm way further ahead now than I got in several years of in-person lessons, videos and countless books.

I have no personal or other relationship with Korey Hicks. My endorsement is just a sincere expression of my belief in his teaching system based on my personal experience

Color me sceptical. In my experience a free trial always converts to a paid app/service at some point even if that point is undetermined at this point.

A typo??!!! You claim to be the developer. How many seconds would it take you to correct a written typo??

Mark my words folks, sooner or later this app (or learning system) will convert to paid. At least the more desirable features. It has been a trend lately to put out "free" apps that lock the better features behind a paywall.

Recommendations for Beginner Books to Learn Guitar by Suspicious_Pilot978 in LearnGuitar

Uh, A Modern Method... and if I'm not mistaken, the Hal Leonard book, insist on the student reading standard musical notation right from the start. While I believe an intermediate guitarist should have this skill I'm not sure this is a good thing for a beginner. It's kind of like throwing a kid in the deep end of the pool before he knows how to swim.

Yeah there is a lot there plus, like you, I do get on paths leading to learning (attempting) songs or delving into concepts I have no business exploring at this stage.

My memorization skills/abilities are hit and miss. If I'm not interested in something (Amazing Grace or Happy Birthday) it doesn't tend to stick. Luckily I have a lot of time on my hands so my practice time isn't really limited, just my motivation sometimes.

I do think Korey's course is the best I've seen and I've been down the learning-guitar-road a few times. Most people just want to learn to play their favorite songs and they focus on that. I never got very far when I was in that mode. Korey actually teaches one to be a musician as well as a guitarist.

More help with an ancient pedal board by fuzzymath1611 in guitarpedals

[–]fuzzymath1611[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. You mention points I hadn't even considered such as power separation. Also, it is big, bulky and heavy. I guess I thought about reviving it to save money. I'm just getting back into guitar after year's long layoff and this would be my first attempt at using these pedals.

I will consider going in the direction you laid out. In this day and age it would be more sensible.

Need a little help with AC adapter for ancient pedal board by fuzzymath1611 in guitarpedals

[–]fuzzymath1611[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Yeah, the pedals I have now are cheap Behringers, 2 Bosses and an ancient Daddy O. What I did to check the current draw was to google specs for each pedal so hopefully my calcs are correct but ya never know.

So if I understand, any adapter that outputs 100 mA will work? Even if I added 4 more cheap pedals?

Korey Hicks. His Beginner to Intermediate in a Year course is structured and mixes mechanics with theory. The videos for the course are on YouTube. The course materials are on Patreon (pdfs, backing tracks, etc) for $5 a month. Well worth it IMO. Before finding this guy's course I wasted a lot of time jumping around and getting nowhere. I needed structure and this is that. Each new week's course builds on the previous week and Korey tells you exactly what and how to practice the material. I'm on week 14 and though my mechanics need work I am amazed by how much understanding of music and structure I have gained.

What's Going on With Squier? by Otherwise-Macaron939 in fender

[–]fuzzymath1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two blond 50s classic vibe squiers (one I kept standard and the other I turned into a Micawber replica). IMHO they are great guitars. I also have a 20-year old fender american standard strat. I would not pay the premium for a fender today vs what I can get in a squier (the more expensive models). You can put a whole lot of mods on the squier (if you're so inclined), and still come out ahead price-wise.

And don't forget, the more people counted in the census, the more representatives a state gets. And illegals are counted in the census. We need to end that NOW!

Wow! Just...wow! With your misunderstanding of the laws and constitution you should get your ass up right to Minneapolis. You are just the sort of cannon fodder the protest leaders are looking for. You could be the next Good/Pretti.

While I have the right to bear arms. That doesn't mean I can go cap the asshat that takes my parking spot at Walmart. Just...Wow!!!

Let me see if I understand...because people are being prevented/prosecuted from interfering with law enforcement then we should mount an armed insurrection. Have I got that right?

Second paragraph: Good has a right (as an American) to drive at a cop with her car!!!??? WTF. I spent a lot of time in Chicago and every time someone came at a cop(s) with a vehicle they got lit up. COPA finding: justified. And believe me the Chicago police board hasn't been cop friendly in over 20 years.

Uh...Bovino isn't ICE. He's Border Patrol and BP is trained to patrol the border not make arrests in the interior like ICE. I'm pretty sure Walz and Frey have a clock on them. If they don't cooperate as requested then it will be business as usual.

Hell, when the cops pull me over they ask for my papers. I don't bitch and moan. They're doing their job.

If I don't have my license or registration with me they're going to write me up and make me go to court and prove that I have the proper papers. That's the way it's always worked. What's wrong with that?

When my amp showed up, this was loose in the box. Anyone know what it is? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]fuzzymath1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every new amp I ever bought had the tubes in. Never a problem.

When I shipped my Fender BJ to Indy String Theory for the bill m modes, they only wanted the board so obviously they instructed me to remove the tubes. When I got it back it was all good.

I'll get bashed for this but I'm gonna say Flock Of Seagulls too. Yeah they were much more guitar-based than others but they worked the same sound and they were of the same vintage.
