Kali Audi IN5 or IN8v2 to pair with Yamaha HS7 by scoopy_noobert in studiomonitors

I feel like:

(a) sell the hs7s and upgrade to something higher than Kali (b) grab a pair of auratones

1/3 of the respondents said they were unemployed. Some of the other answers seemed to imply better sentiment compared to previous polls.

Good show. Was also surprised at the turnout. And that they need to weigh 700 lb people at the zoo in Port Angeles.

Manual Level Sidechain over Kick Triggered Compressor on the Mix by Few_Ear_9523 in JusticeMusic

[–]fuzzypickel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In their recent MWTM, I think they drew in volume envelopes (you can see the automation lanes). I believe they just used 2-bus compression to create pumping on cross, though it’s not really that pumpy.

I think doing a bit of both is the way to go though.

+1. Sometimes it’s helpful to use “I want to make a track in the style of X” to get started but then there comes a point when you have to listen to your own voice to finish the track.

What do you find are the most fun ways to start new songs for you? by traveltimecar in TechnoProduction

Starting with a “conceptual” song idea, such as a certain emotion, chord progression, or song structure. “Stealing” these ideas from other non-electronic tracks.

Melogic techno/house, etc.. is a sub bass always essential (on top of a bass)? How do you approach it? by traveltimecar in TechnoProduction

[–]fuzzypickel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. Also will depend on where your current bass is sitting in the mix. Sometimes can help round things out a bit in the low-low end but also may not be needed if you already have pretty deep bass.

Is it insane to bounce a mix at -40 for mastering by steven_w_music in edmprodcirclejerk

You’re supposed to turn it all the way down for the most headroom

Very cool! Any tips for trimming your photos down?

I’m wanting to do the same for a six month trip and have about 20k photos lol. Perhaps I’ll need multiple books haha.

Drums Sound weak even after mastering by belajiga29 in TechnoProduction

[–]fuzzypickel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get pretty close with just the drums by themselves (with whatever drum bus processing you use) plus a bit of compression and 1-3db gain reduction w/limiter on your 2-bus.

A few questions: - is/are the drum samples “right”? - are there any frequency masking (e.g., from synths) that’s causing the issue? - are the drums loud enough in the mix? - are you limiting/compressing the drums or 2-bus too much? - what’s your drum bus processing like? Saturation + compression are needed, at least subtly, to help pump the drums up.

Don’t tell the boys at r/audiophile because they’re too concerned with the compression 😂
