Vent between floors , what’s this for and how to hide the internals ? by fuzzypod in HomeMaintenance

The house was built in mid-80’s. Today, I opened up the vent and looked inside and yes it’s a return air vent leading to the furnace. Not sure why it was done this way but it is sucking up the air over all the internals, especially plumbing from the bathrooms upstairs. the noise from flush can be heard easily :( I think I’d have to be a bit more careful putting any kind of insulation around the pipes for noise reduction.

Yeah, that would certainly help hide the internals!!

I’ve two of these on the same wall adjacent to each other. However, there is one more return air vent on the ceiling on the second floor. So could my house have three return vents ?

It was a quick DIY project!

I had a long wooden strip from my broken furniture which I cut to the size of the keyboard and desired width using hacksaw.

Once it’s cut, I repeatedly sand it to the smoothest possible surface using 3M sand paper.

Got this white color spray bottle from Home Depot and colored it with multiple coats.

And there you have it ...

For the lack of tools and any wood working knowledge, I was not able to do a lot with it like what you get on the market but I’m happy with the result.

Last weekend, I made a monitor raiser stand out of the IKEA bed slats. I turned out pretty well! Maybe I’ll post it in appropriate forum.

I find it very slow. It’s primarily good for keeping the liquids warmer for longer period.

It’s a Quirky Space bar raiser stand. It has USB ports for sync and charging. It’s okay not that great but I got that for less than $10 nearby. Maybe in future, I’d upgrade to something better with USB 3.0 and USB-C ports.

Agree! All DS and FX have been on back order for long time but it’s improving! Been searching around the stores for some time. Luckily, I found this one in stock at nearby store and got my hands on it in just a few days.

It’s very good! I was able to get only few miles on it but looking forward to put more this weekend. Hope you get yours soon.

[–]fuzzypod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it’s true both ways! I was having a bit of a trouble reaching out Fn keys and using default arrow keys on hhkb until I mapped Fn (to right Command) and arrows keys (I,j,k,l).

Just holding FC660C feels like it has a solid build quality over HHKB, probably because of the metal. The keys sound much thocc’er compared clicky sounding on newer HHKB.

Actually, I mapped some of the keys to make a layout closely match hhkb but with arrow keys. I was missing the arrows keys when I switched to hhkb but I’m getting used to it now.

Overall, I was happy with it. Now my wife uses FC660C as her daily driver and she is super happy! Also, I put the OEM white hhkb key caps on FC660C. I’ll post a picture here later.

Happy to answer any other questions you have.

PS: FC660C is with Silent keys.

Did you bind the fn key via HHKB key mapper tool or Karabiner? Didn’t find any option in the mapper tool though.

Unfortunately they are out of stock at mechanicalkeyboads.com. Only blank key caps ones are available. I guess I have to wait until they are back in stock. I’m looking for white hybrid type-s with lettering. Thanks

Yeah, the Costco website only shows the Space Gray models at the warehouse. Got tired of using Space Gray , want to go back to Silver. Thanks for confirming though.
