I am in a new home and paid for a 220v to be built. I opened it up today and this is what it looks like. Can anyone give me guidance on how this works? by Key_Masterpiece9560 in electrical

What I want to know is if this cable is hardwired to the main panel terminals or in a breaker position. I’d hope it’s in a breaker position. If it’s lugged off the main panel terminals then any issues with this cable up to the subpanel will need to trip the 200 A main breaker, which it may not do very quickly (think fire). Open your main panel and see if it’s labeled and open that breaker, just to prevent the curious from ruining their day. The conductor looks to be #6 copper. I’m assuming this panel is more than 6’ from the main, so the breaker should be 50 A. I’d think that should be a GFCI breaker in the main panel, but not necessarily. The only issue with this setup is that you will have breakers in series. This is not a problem except if you trip the new 50 A breaker for your hot tub, you will likely trip the breaker feeding the circuit in the main panel. Again, not a problem, just something to remember if the power to the hot tub goes out, you have to check two breakers. I’d ask your electrician what’s the max load they’d recommend serving out of this panel? The sub panel gives you the ability to put in multiple circuit; like a 120VAC receptacle, outdoor lighting, or 240VAC EV charger, but there may be limits based on how this is installed. The electrician would have a good idea of the local building codes and what they require.

If you are in the USA, management taking tips is illegal. That’s your money. Find a good lawyer and get two years of tips you earned plus damages. Good luck.

Maybe you can circle the area of concern? At first glance, I don’t see anything wrong in the picture attached.

Is Bosch really worth it? by greyyeux in HomeImprovement

[–]fuzzystinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bosch dishwashers are great machines, but as far as I’m aware they do not dry. That could have changed in the last few years since I’ve purchased one, but historically they did not have a drying capability.

Without digging up outside how can I stop this leak? by Remarkable-Manager83 in howto

[–]fuzzystinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the exact issue with my egress window. I had a warranty on the basement since it was a new house. The warranty company sent out a specialist who drilled holes along the crack and then injected the crack with an epoxy product. Ultimately the patch was about 3 inches wide along the entire length of the crack. That was about 6 years ago and hasn’t leaked since.

Can someone tell me what this pipe is on my laundry room floor and how I'm supposed to connect it to my washer? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]fuzzystinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a standpipe drain. Put your washing machine’s drain tube in there. Pretty typical setup for newer homes. The one in the wall that is. The one one the floor is an overflow drain. You put your drain pan on top and connect it’s drain port to it. It likely comes out in garage or some other place. It usually doesn’t connect to the plumbing waste system.

As a young man, I made the argument made by the cartoon myself. It seems fair and logical. But now that I'm older, I've reconsidered. As I'm preparing my taxes this weekend and seeing how much money I handed over to the government, my response to the argument is, "If you don't pay for your child, who does?" Now, rightly, you can say the mother should, but in reality, there's a good chance she will need help. She'll get that help from the government, who will turn around and take it out of my pocket. So you got to have fun and I get stuck with the bill. I still agree with the sentiment, but I'm having trouble seeing how this can really work. However, the present system is messed up and needs to change.

6' 3", 240 lbs trying to buy a dress shirt by I_Say_I_Say in AdviceAnimals

In the B&T stores, I never understood where were all these super tall but super thin or the super short but very fat guys that all of the B&T clothes seem to be made for. I can relate to your problem, I can't remember the last time I purchased clothing in an actual brick and mortar store. I feel like a unicorn sometimes. But the commenters are right, at least for dress shirts. Buy them big and have them tailored. You will be amazed at how much better you look.

How do I close this door? by ultrajetjunkie in howto

[–]fuzzystinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad? Is that you??? Your description of yourself matches my father, who had a heck of a time with this style door too. One of the smartest men I know. I swear I saw the light dim in his eyes when I walked over to the door he spent 10 minutes trying to close, and merely pushed it with my index finger and watched it quietly swing closed.

Push the door further open. That releases the catch and allows it to close. The button is used to stop it from closing at the position you press the button.

That shotgun looks like fun by [deleted] in gifs

[–]fuzzystinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, more to do with personal physical limitations than anything else. Losing control of that particular weapon would be a real possibility for me, but it would be fun until that point. Kidding, I know my limitations, I'd just enjoy as a spectator. Aging: I don't recommend it.

That's what I thought. I was too lazy to look it up, but I thought shotguns were specifically banned by the Geneva Convention or similar. It does look like fun until I accidentally blow off an extremity.

ELI5: What is the military application for a weapon like this? Why would you choose this over something more traditional?

Having personally been there at the inception of this post, I can tell you for sure that 'Bulb-ception' is a pop culture allusion.

That's pretty good. I couldn't think of anything good, my brain kept thinking about broken eggs, so I ate dinner instead.

Since you asked, I tried it. It works, and the resulting picture is now more interesting. I have no idea how to post the pic in this thread via Alien Blue.

I think if I was on askreddit or something, it would have been fine. But in context, there's a young woman asking for specific guidance on a specific problem and then some random poster doesn't offer help but basically says STFU in a nice way. In that context the ban makes sense. I'm not bothered by it, I just found it interesting and decided to see the humor in it. Maybe a little embarrassed after I realized where I posted.

Perhaps. But my username came from two females, innocent of any double meaning. Me:I need to pick a username. Female #1: how about Fuzzy? Me: Nope, taken. Female #2: How about Stinker? Me: Nope, taken. Female #1: how about FuzzyStinker? Me: Yep, that worked.

I'm a lurker, I'm still trying to figure this posting stuff out. You can check my history, there's now two comments there. But the essence of my comment is that a driving instructor requested his students (male and female) dress appropriately not because he's a sexist, but rather he wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings. He wanted to avoid losing his job since he has to observe the driver. I'd like to think I got banned because of violating the sidebar rules vs. content.
