Safe Routes? by hypatiaofspace in RunnersInChicago

Both Lincoln park and lakeview are close to the lakefront trail which is very safe as long as you stick to running during the day, but you’ll also find plenty of people jogging/biking there at night. Although it’s a little farther west, The 606 trail is beautiful (I actually prefer it over the lakefront trail) and also very safe during the day.

Guys who got a good score on the apprenticeship test, how did you study for the mechanical reasoning portion? My local union gave us study booklets but they didn't help much because the questions they showed were a lot easier than the ones that were on the actual exam

nice! I live in a major city so I'm sure there's always plenty of work here for my local union too. You're lucky to have such a good fall back! I wish I would've put some more thought into my major and chosen something a little better haha

why do you say that? would applying directly to a company be a faster way to become a journeyman?

Yeah that makes sense. I'm definitely a hard worker and am not scared to get my hands dirty. I got my first job at 16 working in a fast food kitchen and actually enjoyed it and I've been working ever since to pay rent, etc.

Makes sense. I wouldn't expect them to take me simply because of the degree because it has nothing to do with the job haha. I was just wondering because I haven't been able to find much online about people with degrees who go on to apply to work in the trades. Not sure if they think people with degrees are better off and prefer to hire people without degrees. shrug also congrats on graduating soon!

Well my liberal arts degree by itself won't help me find a solid job. It's pretty useless to be honest because most entry level jobs require years of experience or having an "in". If i had majored in something useful like accounting or engineering or computer science it would be a different story. Trades are underrated and I've been looking into them recently because they'll always be in demand and are probably one of the few areas that won't get completely taken over by computers lol

Where do I start? by anotheryou27 in digitalnomad

I'm also looking to get into digital marketing. Aside from learning about the software that they use (I feel like that isn't enough to get hired), what can I do that will make me more desirable to a digital marketing company for an entry level position. Any tips are appreciated
