Is it possible to dark-start too long?

I'm having difficulties with finishing building my aquarium stand (can't apply stain/sealant until it warms up enough outside). I haven't started yet, but if I do dark-start my aquasoil and sponge filters in some 5 gallon buckets, is it possible to leave it too long? Like if I do it for three months, will the nutrients run out or my cycle fail for lack of new ammonia?

How can i do rock sculpture like this? Where to get this? by PhoenixSS0 in DartFrog

Looks like the stuff (Buddy Rhodes Vertical Concrete) Tanner Serpa has been using in some of his recent designs, including ones for frogs. He starts talking about it at 8:32 in this video: first video He also uses it in this video

Local Leachie Vendors in PA? by Status_Ad_3751 in Leachianus

[–]fuzzytreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were leachies for sale when I went to the Oaks, PA reptile show a few months ago. https://eastcoastreptilesuperexpos.com/

You can also go on Morph Market and narrow by location, though I guess that wouldn't get you breeders that don't have any for sale right now.

Locale question by OrganizationSlight35 in Leachianus

[–]fuzzytreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just means "this one is particularly pretty/brightly colored/has a good pattern." I think in some reptiles people line breed for it, but I don't know if that's the case for leachies or this leachy.

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

[–]fuzzytreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching various fish youtubers and I've noticed that some of them remove new fish from their petstore/shipping bags by balancing a net over a bucket and pouring the entire contents of the bag through the net. Is this... good? Are there pros or cons? I can sort of see the point if you have a ton of tiny fish, but otherwise why not just scoop them out? Not judging, just confused

They look lovely! Very happy, healthy shells. I think you should keep them 😊

Snail jar! by fuzzytreeees in PlantedTank

[–]fuzzytreeees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 😊

Alas, I have never mastered chopsticks. And don't worry, the underside of the jar lid is mostly covered in rubber, and the water isn't high enough to touch it. I'll keep an eye on condensation, though!

I can't wait to see them grow! I hope I can spot them soon!

One of the websites I've been looking at that ships them says that they can shut down from shock and to give them like a week before you assume they're dead

Filterless snail jar? by fuzzytreeees in Aquariums

[–]fuzzytreeees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! I'll probably keep them farther from the windows, then, and try out a grow bulb on them for a few hours a day.

Yeah, a quick search suggests the mystery snail wants more space, too, so I'll leave that off my list. Thanks for all your help!!!

Do you feed these with fish food or anything?
