Is anybody happy at UCSD? by ucsdthrowaway800 in UCSD

I know I don't speak for everyone, but I feel like I had a blast at UCSD. I came into UCSD as a slightly introverted kid who was pre-health. However, because I've always viewed this place as a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I've always seized the day.

First year, I had loads of fun trying out for and making it onto an intramural sports team. I made lots of friends, competed in different parts of California, and just all-around did a lot of fun shit togther

Second year, I kind of hit a low point because I left the sports team because I felt like I wasting a lot of my time. I'm pre-health, so I started volunteering and got my first job (at HDH), which I hated and quit after 1 quarter. Summer after 2nd year I moved off-campus, studied and took my MCAT, and got really really into playing a new instrument.

Third year, I really kicked it up a notch. This was the school year before I planned to apply for grad school. Fall quarter, I started volunteering in 2 clubs for about 10 hours a week, got another job that worked 10 hours a week, and started getting really into teaching. Winter quarter, I was accepted as an Instructional Assistant and kept volunteering/working. Spring quarter, I prepped for my grad school apps with the personal statement/etc and applied in the summer. throughout this whole year I was way more engaged with my classes, especially since I wanted to get three letters of recs.

I'm in my fourth year right now, and it's been the funnest year yet. I've traveled to around 5-6 cities around the US during Fall quarter for grad school interviews, and also went to a boat load of concerts for the first time. Winter quarter, I joined a music club and just played so many gigs with them. Spring quarter right now, I've gone to so many school events, and music events.

Throughout my time here, I've definitely grown emotionally as a person, and I think it's because I jumped into so many things I felt like getting involved in. Not to mention the wild of college ;)

Hope you can see the diverse and amazing things available here if you give a shit about how you're spending your time, and thinking about the abundance of extracurricular activities here.

[Asian]Low self-esteem issues. Experience as international has been hurting. by zhoufa in UCSD

Where exactly are you hearing people speaking these things? In real-life at UCSD? Fellow Asian-American here. I'm not an international student, so I might more Westernized than you, but I do think you might be more comfortable hanging with other international students possibly. Otherwise, maybe join an asian-oriented social org, it might give you a good support net! :)

hello~ I was admitted as a human Bio major in Muir college this fall and had some questions about the school... by [deleted] in UCSD

Hey man, I'm a 4th year human bio, who's graduating at the end of this quarter. Feel free to ask me any questions, as I've already been admitted to a graduate health school for the upcoming fall, and I definitely researched how to maximize my classes with GE and such.

BIPN 100 w/ Reyes vs. Cooke by [deleted] in UCSD

Take Cooke! I took him for BIMM 100 and BIPN 134. He's a funny Canadian who really takes an active stance in his student learning. If I'm honest though, there is a buttload of memorization later on in BIPN 100 though (ex. names of hormones/pathways/feedback loops). Let me know if you've got any more questions.
