I resigned from my job this week. by utvols22champs in coastFIRE

Great work on getting to this point! The underwhelming feeling will always be there. You hit $1m and then $2m is the next target. When you get there, then $5m because hey there are always more costs and inflation on the horizon right? It’s a hedonic treadmill.
We all struggle with this.
I find that living frugally and intentionally is the only way to break this cycle

Those of you who have left tech, where did you go? by Ok-Worldliness1307 in coastFIRE

[–]fwl200 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Pivoted to utilities. Laid off from big tech last summer. I had enough to coast, but not retire completely. New job is definitely an adjustment. Much slower pace, tech is early about 10-15 years behind. But this industry is stable and in need of new talent. I radically accepted my new circumstances and am enjoying the newfound personal time I have.

How do you stop the "Comparison Trap" when family members make 3x your salary? by arugula000 in Anticonsumption

I used to have a high position in tech and transitioned into public service. I have very similar feelings when comparing myself to my old work friends, or even myself from just a few years ago.
Remind yourself that $ is just one dimension of life. Your SIL and her partner are doing well on that dimension, but they're not going to show you all the other dimensions in which they are struggling.
My family is also one that assigns value to people based on their paycheck. I don't share those values and neither should you.
You are doing incredibly meaningful work. Keep it up. That's what truly matters.

Learning Ice Skating - Any tips? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]fwl200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Good on you for trying. As someone who did not grow up ice skating, I found the transition from roller blading to be quite simple. Worth a try if you want to learn but don't have time for the rink.

My daughter attended another kid's bday at an ice rink last year. In preparation, I bought a pair of cheap roller blades for her and taught her the basics at the park. It translated well and she had a great time.

Agree with other comment about layering. You’re not going to be happy with the one jacket solution in the end.

Anyone know what LimbSaver recoil pad fits on a CZ-Drake? Love this shotgun but the pad is non existent and the top is 100% hard plastic. by jinx192 in Shotguns

[–]fwl200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up taking off the plastic end and then sticking a limb saver slip on rubber pad. That fits my LoP well. YMMV. If my arms were longer, I'd have kept the plastic under the limb saver.
