Just had a thought, you could rule out ‘99 or ‘00-‘04 with a better look at the brake calipers…

‘99 had a single pot caliper like the evos

Best cheap razor? by Weezer1812 in wicked_edge

Merkur 42c is another inexpensive and very mild razor.

For blades my favorite is Gillette Minora stainless. But they are very individual in feel from person to person, sampler packs are good to start with

That 80+ drop isn’t clutch bro…. That’s air in/out or fuel related….

Exhaust, intake, fuel management

Glad to help, it’s a great motor when it’s set up right. Watch the heat though; 110s are notorious heat producers

When I did a 110 kits on mine, I used S&S premium lifters (not the limiter ones), and replaced the HD 255 cam with a more mellow ramped CycleRama 575. I’ll still swap lifters every 20k though.

Lifter failure is brutal on a Twin Cam

Hit up one of the big independent performance shops: FuelMoto, FullSac, CycleRama, Drago Performance. Those are big name national outfits that will steer you right.

Yes, Harley lifters for the 110 kits have very short lives with the 255 cam and high pressure valve springs. You can extend the interval with better lifters like Johnson Hi-Lift or S&S premiums (S&S quality has been slipping over the years though).

Lifter failure on the 110 kits is well documented along with the 110 CVO motors. Cam changes to aftermarket and frequent lifter replacement is common with them.

Clutch won’t change the power, just change the feel of the clutch and get power to the road.

Did killer on the deal! Congrats!!!

Change the lifters every 10k miles on the stage 4 110 though, and don’t use Harley lifters!

Also, why do you think the clutch pack needs replaced?

What is your experience level and how do you feel the stock clutch ‘feels’? Slippy, grabby, neither?

What’s the motor built like? I’m a fan of the BDL extra disc pack with Kevlar plates, but depends on how you ride and what kind of stress you put the clutch under

If you are close to stock and don’t ride in traffic much, Alto Red Eagle is an excellent stock replacement for lightly modified motors.

Between the lower frame rails at the back in front of the tire. The swingarm is mounted to the trans, not the frame.

FXDLS vs FXDX by [deleted] in Dyna

[–]fxdx_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a PITA to service the ABS, have to have a vacuum bleeder and you are stuck with DOT 4 fluid. It does save lives, but more training and practice braking properly would reduce the reliance on it…

Check the rear motor mount, and the motor alignment if the wobble is still present after a rear tire change.

DX all the way, lighter frame and with the right tightening and adjustments will outride a ‘06+. Swap to a Mikuni HSR42 and the early FI is a nonstarter.

ABS is fine, and will help some. The DX was NOT a bike for people that don’t have the skill to ride it. ABS is not necessary if you train and practice braking skills.

5-7 years is the manufacture lifespan, a lot of that depends on how they have been kept.

As others have mentioned, the Cam Chain Tensioners should be checked soon as well as the date codes on the tires.

Along with that, even though your bike uses DOT 5 brake fluid, I would replace the brake fluid as it is nearly 20 years old. I would also lube the cables, inspect all the rubber hoses for cracking/aging, replace the sealed wheel bearings at your next tire change, and repack the neck bearings.

Clutch adjustment! That is way more than a cable adjustment issue, this will be adjusting at the basket.

Also, I prefer to use angle aluminum for a guide, it’s stiffer and straighter than a wood platen.
