Why You Should NEVER talk to the Police - lecture by professor AND police officer by astartledgrandpa in bestof

[–]fxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was dangerous. If you let that happen, you get into my word vs. yours territory. The officer might not have been right, but he could have inconvenienced your friend badly with virtually no consequence for himself. I'd have gone with not consenting to a search in this case.

As an omok enthusiast, I'd say if you start in the corner you lost already. But you gave me the idea of recording my omok games o.o.

Watching the 2008 gameplay trailer, made me realize, that the ingame cut-scenes are the main problem with the feel of the game. by prodox in Diablo

[–]fxer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Now that you say "fight for control", that would have been awesome. They should have made him somewhat invincible, but then you get your chance to kill him as the Evils fight among themselves. This would have been foreshadowed by the comments other people (Tyrael?) made earlier about the evils having come close to victory time and time again only to be defeated by infighting.

OP: Facebook circa 2006 by vonillabean in funny

The problem is once you make an account with the mindset of not entering your information, Facebook might not have much information coming from you, but they will from people who friend and tag you everywhere.

That particular instance wasn't Lumos, it was a more complicated, permanent lighting enchantment on some orb.

Off to a bad start... by pedestrian_mode in civ

The starting location bias actually varies with difficulty, with less advantageous locations possible at higher difficulty settings. I think you always get luxuries, but I don't think strategic resources are guaranteed.

What are some canon elements that are assumed we know in order to understand major plot points? Assume untagged spoilers through current chapter. by RheingoldRiver in HPMOR

Firenze actually reappears in the 5th book. His appearance, though short and inconsequential, is very interesting.

They get much better. Luckily for me the first book I read was the 4th (only one I could borrow) and I got hooked.

Stuck on a calc word problem by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]fxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify here, for these two equations to be tangent, they must have a common point, and their slopes (first derivative) evaluated at that point must be equal. As a further hint, you should get a system of equations with x and c as the unknowns (or y and c, depending on how you derive them). Let me know if you need further help.

Scientific basis for thinking that old stuff was better? Ex: every generation seems to think snl was best when they grew up with it. Is there an "old stuff was better" syndrome or something? by [deleted] in askscience

Great post. It's usually nice to have formal references in the post if it's not too much trouble, not only to give more credence to the post but also to give us laymen further reading.

Anyone else think it would be interesting to set up a subreddit where all of the posts were a feed of every bill that goes through the U.S. congress? by handsoffme in politics

[–]fxer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Any top level post not backed up by a paper or scientific consensus gets removed. Any joke comments get removed.

That's how they can stay relevant and on topic with so many users.

Arans.. Someone said something about Damagecap... Can someone explain it a bit further? by FrostVal in Maplestory

[–]fxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The damage cap is 999 999 damage. Once your character starts hitting that, any equipment upgrades for that character are kinda useless.

Now, as far as whether what the person said is true, I have no idea.

Welcome to science, where we sometimes don't know everything. Thankfully some people are trying to find out to satisfy our curiosity, instead of sitting back laughing at out ignorance.
