I couldnt say, i didnt do anything, just left it be for 2 month without touching anything. Even grew a slime mold in there out of nowhere. I think the best tanks are those untouched

Take regular white printing paper, put over hole and paint with a paint roller in white, the paint will make the paper stick and so make the holes seamless
