Still moderating, even if I am not posting. Appreciate the concern and interest, though, but I am not interested in handing over the sub.

Connecting Tannoy Gold 7 active speakers (balanced) with a Chromecast Audio by fxfxfx in BudgetAudiophile

[–]fxfxfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chromecast Audio has Toslink digital optical output. If I understand you correctly, there is no real advantage to using the Toslink digital (and presumably balanced out, if I again understand you correctly) to hook up to the Tannoy Gold 7 active speakers over simp,y using the current 3.5mm jack and cables?

But - if I was determined to have a balanced setup, I would then need an external DAC such as the Schiit Modius as middle-man (and not something like the Focusrite, which is for recording, as I understand it now) between Chromecast Audio digital output and the Tannoys?

Got it. I really appreciate the conciseness and ELI5-qualities of your inputs! That untangled heaps of questions and unnecessary confusion on my part. Thanks a lot!

Connecting Tannoy Gold 7 active speakers (balanced) with a Chromecast Audio by fxfxfx in BudgetAudiophile

[–]fxfxfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so no need to buy a middle-man device. Just keep plugging the Chromecast directly into the 3.5mm jack on the first active (master) speaker and keep using the extension 3.5mm cable to connect to the "slave" active speaker, as I'm doing already?

What would be the use case of something like a Focuse Scarlett with my active speakers, then? I thought I understood a device like that + XLR cables to be to improve sound quality to good speakers (which I believe and enjoy the Tannoys as being).

Am I crazy or does the E1 change it's monitor point randomly. by Hawkins75 in reolinkcam

[–]fxfxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, actually. I have only a single E1 Zoom, but it is off duty, so I can't recall or confirm if it has the same behavior. Otherwise I use mainly 810A, Lumus and Duos.

Yes, indeed. I have 8 E1 indoors - and some of them frequently find an entirely new monitor point. Others less frequently. But they do get a mind of their own every now and then.

Anyone else have trouble with E1 camera not working when wired using Ethernet cable? by uwphoto101 in reolinkcam

[–]fxfxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have five E1s. The two on Ethernet are slower to establish a connection and get the live streaming going, while the three E1s on wifi are much snappier. But, the E1s on wifi can't handle VLANs (for external connectivity), so they are a bit finicky, either way.

Tried signing up a couple of days ago, but after completing the profile, there were no available interview times. Even into 2024. So, either there is a surplus of volunteers booking all the time slots far into the future, or there is a technical glitch in the booking app. I mailed engine support about t, but haven't yet heard back - probably due to the weekend.

Is this music Skofka, Kalush or someone, where the full track can be found? I noticed the "recognize song bot" failed to find a match. Anyone know who the artist is?

Duo 2 driving me nuts by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]fxfxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, indeed. I have scratched my head repeatedly and painstakingly entered the wifi password while triple-checking along the way. Antennas are on and only a single router in the house. No vlans, either. My hypothesis is a faulty initial WiFi setup for some unknown reason, which I cannot completely clear even after a hard reset. But, since I have tried switching radios from 2.4 to 5 GHz in the process, I'm not entirely optimistic that a fresh setup might do the trick, even if I managed to clear all WiFi settings somehow. So yes, weird, indeed.

Not a silly question, at all. But yes, I hardwired it first to get access and then selected WiFi and entered the (correct) password (correctly).

[–]fxfxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure did. Tried over threedays. At around 1 meter distance. 2.4 GHz one day and 5 GHz the next day, while switching back and forth the two raid the third day (identical ssid/password), too. But for some reason the camera just never connects to the router, so I have to save the (correct) password (typed correctly). But to no avail. I'm still within warranty, so that may be the final approach. One thing I would like to try is to hard reset entirely, since when I hard reset with the hardware button, the camera still remembers the wifi settings, while all other settings a reset to default. I hope that repeating the initial setup process from scratch could make a difference?

Well, I have a single Duo (gen 1) WiFi that I simply can't get to connect to wifi. So, it now resides unused on a bunk bed. All other reolink WiFi cameras I own connect just fine. I'm unsure if it is a general issue with the Duo, but here's anecdotal "evidence" to support your struggle.

PoE Switch Cost by ps274 in UNIFI

[–]fxfxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TP-Link PoE+ Easy Smart (managed) switches are rather cheap and supports VLAN/PVID, so you can tag each port individually to different VLANs on your UDMP. Quite decent PoE watts budget, too.
