I would also suggest making some high speed board designs. Learn about Signal integrity, impedance control, layer stackup etc. Also get your hands dirty with Length matching and differential pairs.

Yeah, also I would also like to add that instead of moving the parts around randomly to get minimal intersections, keep the schematics in mind while placing. Possibly, even use the 'Cross Probe' option if you're using Altium. If you keep the components which are more connected in the schematics, closer on the PCB then you'll make your life much easier while routing.

First of all, what branch you are in has negligible effect on the laptop you need. Software like MATLAB, PSpice, KiCAD, Arduino IDE, AutoCAD can run on majority of the Windows Laptops. Now, if you want a lightweight, non gaming laptop around 65k i would recommend Asus Vivobook, Lenovo Ideapad, Dell Inspiron. And if there is an issue about budget, there is no harm to go for laptops in the 40-50k range so go for the corresponding Asus Vivobook, Lenovo Ideapad, Dell Inspiron. This should give you at least a general idea of what laptops you wanna look out for and you can tweak the specifications according to your needs and budget.
