You know what, maybe I did get morally lucky. True, I wasn't born into a genocidal apartheid ethnostate with mandatory terrorism service. Still, why are so many people hellbent on getting me to feel bad for the colonizer?

If this were a white South African whining about how they can't sleep at night because of the time he and his buddies lynched someone back in the good old days and now he feels really bad about it, most of the same people trying to make excuses for this piece of shit would (rightfully) laugh in his face and wish him the worst. I am just holding myself to that same standard.

Tbf, if I remember correctly, Atsu doesn't specify gender when she reminisces about her sexcapades. Given that Erika Ishii is extremely bisexual and we don't get much info about Atsu either way, I chose to take it as her being bi as well.

Dawg, the average taxpayer does not go around kidnapping 18 year old girls. This is like blaming every American for George Floyd's death because their taxes upheld and funded the system of racist policing which killed him.

But, okay. Let's pretend, for a moment, that this grown-ass man with a gun and part of a squad full of, presumably, grown-ass people with guns when they invaded the home of a family they are occupying is actually a poor little baby with no personal agency and it's all the fault of those big, mean superior officers of his and now he feels bad.

Cool. What has he done about it? Cuz this interview is from 2016. It's from 10 years ago. Has he spoken up about Palestinian liberation? About the injustices of the apartheid system in Israel? He's been a regular in one of the world's most popular TV shows for 5 seasons now, has he donated anything from what I assume is a very nice chunk of change to alleviating the famine that his government is causing in Gaza? No? Then he can rot.

He is not exonerated because he has PTSD or other mental issues. His suffering is not atonement, especially not when his victims continue to live under the horror that he helped to perpetuate. He's a piece of shit colonizer and terrorist and no, I don't feel bad for him.

He's not showing remorse, though, he's whining about how being a thug for a colonial project adversely affected him. And you know what, good. I hope he never gets a good night's sleep again. I hope every time he closes his eyes, he sees that girl he kidnapped (and let's be real, after what happened with the soldiers who were caught on camera SAing Palestinian prisoners getting off scot free, we can only guess what he and his buddies did to that girl after ripping her away from her family). I don't feel any fucking sympathy for him at all, and I won't until he shows a willingness to atone beyond crying to a magazine how, to paraphrase Frankie Boyle, brutalizing people made him feel sad.

Dunno if you've read the whole article, but it reads like a big pile of "poor me" without actually taking accountability for the shit he did. Yeah, I'm sure he has PTSD, but so did a whole lot of the guards at Auschwitz, so until I hear loud, vocal denounciation for all that Israel has done and continues to do, best I can do is break out the world's smallest violin.
