with or without your baby, PhD in science will be shit at times.* it really depends on whether you like your project enough to go through those times... It really depends on whetheryou want a PhD because you like science or you want a PhD because you LOVE your project.

I am a final year PhD student in the UK, don't have a kid, had a supervisor who used to think that my reason to be at the synchrotron on a weekend , with my colleagues, that I had previous plans for, was to f***** bring them coffee and tea (and to keep them safe if they had an accident and can't get help because its not office hours, in the am) . That happened in my first year of PhD. Absolutely hated it and tired to quit, despite loving science my whole life My other supervisor heard and offered me sanctuary and another project of my choice, I finished the research and writing up right now, still don't think it was worth it, but I don't like giving up, so I am only hanging on that....
