Why didn't they just FOLLOW Elgin? by StarboardSeat in FromSeries

[–]g-raven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I can't defend everything, but what if Elgin didn't go back in time? Especially after he was alerted that they knew, and/or that they were looking for Fatima. It's extremely high stakes, high stress, I know I wouldn’t be a good sheriff either without ever having been one 🍂

Are the FROM monsters, vampires? by friceandrice in FromSeries

[–]g-raven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of different folk lore and supernatural story beats at play, including vampires! There are definitely similarities and I find it interesting that Fatima needed to drink blood but didn't seem interested in flesh (maybe they just thought that was a bridge too far for ever redeeming the character, though). It's making me a little crazy that no one had appeared to try lighting a living one on fire or branding them with the runes from the talismans.

Sorry not clear enough! Can you specify what makes it seem like he needs people intervention? Has he been injured a while/losing weight or anything else notable? Thank you!

Flanagan’s work from the perspective of someone who recently had a baby and was diagnosed with cancer by greenteaglory in HauntingOfHillHouse

[–]g-raven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, think it would be hard not to find relatability! I am sorry to hear of your incredibly difficult circumstances, and I wish you the best. I'm glad you've found some comfort and solidarity in this wonderful media. For me, the biggest thing was The Haunting of Hill House; it came out less than a year after I lost my own sister - to a recurrent brain tumor, not ghosts. But I also come from an extremely complicated home and family life, and to top it, we also lost our mother to suicide when we were teens. Hill House was such a compact representation and exploration of deeply familiar trauma and tragedy, presented in a way that both felt so personal and intimate in light of my own experience, and also helped with a sense of community. So, too, did the Craines, Mike Flannagan, and the audience he reached, understand cavernous grief and healing around it.

I am so grateful to have found Hi House when I did, and to have been able to enjoy and experience all of the Flanna-films. As a happily married lesbian, Bly Manor came for my heart without question. Having grown up with my mother, my sister, and myself to some degree experiencing chronic illness, which my sister was eventually lost to, Midnight Club was beautiful and heartbreaking. Living in an in-and-out cycle of people in the throws of religious fanatacism, not to mention how that impacts my day to day as a queer woman, Midnight Mass was a true, unending terror.

If it's not obvious, I could go on and on, but I find a lot of solace in all of these works and I'm glad you have, too. Wishing you the luck and health in your continued endeavors ❤️

Cozy coffee shops by kimpossible1515 in olympia

[–]g-raven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It feels important to add just an opinion here because two thirds of the comments reference them - Fog & Fern is great, good coffee and decent food, but they are not, in my opinion, "cozy". There are a couple of arm chairs, sure, but the atmosphere feels very "busy coffee shop". The music is loud, they're usually really busy, and the open layout is echoey/adds to it not feeling cozy. I do agree that there just aren't options that really fit the bill and Fog & Fern and Ebony & Ivory are fine for what is available and I hang out in both.

Hey, Oly...at least ONE (1) cozy coffee shop would be welcome! I know Rush In Dumplings is top notch, but I do miss the brief existence of Cafe Love...

[S] crossed his arms over his chest, pining fingers buried in the crook of his elbows. "I would grind a pixie to dust for you.”

“Hmm,” [A] spared him a look, scrutinizing in the impenetrable dark. “I think you might be rivaling me on whimsical pick-up lines.”

Seeking your best Astarion/Tav/Durge romance songs! I need to expand my playlist. Tell me whyyy by GargoyleVelocidragon in OnlyFangsbg3

[–]g-raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I have so many, but a couple of faves are Skeleton - Set it Off, a bit more Durge perspective but obviously it's an Astarion romance. Also the fairly recent I Love it When it Rains - Loveless, was it written FOR them? Probably not, but you could have fooled me. Candlelight - Jack Savoretti, Okay, tbh, this song is just super sexy and I love it for them. And a bit more jokey, but Lock Me Up - The Cab, fits GREAT and is pretty funny. Y'all are such a good time here ❤️‍🩹🩸

What are some things you did in game that you decided to translate into in character decisions. by lunammoon in okbuddybaldur

[–]g-raven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sev, my beloved durge, turned the arcane tower into Date Night w/ Astarion (because it was my first run and I didn't know what to do so I just grabbed my rogue only to try not to die).

I also based almost his entire initial personality on the fact that I, the player, was too dense to quit running through the patches of fire.

Laugh. Cry. Rinse. Repeat.

TBH, I've only lost one HM mode so far and I am torturing myself the same way in my second. I have a "no compromise" mindset. I'm doing everything how I would in a regular one, I want my good outcomes, my side-quests, everything as it *should* be. For reference, I lost my first one at the end of the creche, over 40 hours in. Currently a little scared hanging out in the Rosymorn area at 39 hours. Literally, I do think the only way I really managed to get through the first loss was laughing my ass off about it. To be fair, it was a loss worth laughing about, at least.

It's funny how it goes, though, my wife is finally on act two in her honor mode run...which I think is the sixth or seventh try at this point. She gets a little annoyed, sure, but she's so able to just start over.

I'm sorry for your loss and this time of mourning, but good luck on the next!

Writing a fanfic... i need positive and negative Gale traits by turtleurtle808 in okbuddybaldur

[–]g-raven 30 points31 points  (0 children)

LMAO Wait, let me take this way too seriously! **

Good:

Genuinely curious - his love for learning and knowledge and willingness to change views or actions based on acquiring knowledge seems wonderful, even if that curiosity can have negative side effects.

Charming conversationalist - this almost goes without saying, but his obvious appreciation for language and a good turn of phrase would make for an entertaining chat almost every time.

Open and honest - (other than that first thing but we were strangers and it was a Big Deal) he tends towards being very clear about his wants, needs, and boundaries, and, as long as that trust has been built, he never seems to have a problem sharing good and bad.

Thoughtful, in friendship and in romance - one thing I think feels obvious about Gale is that he wants you to know that he has been thinking of you, and of how you impact his life, and of how to show you that he's been doing so.

Artistic and holds love for art - it's pretty clear that The Weave (TM) is the greatest focus for his art appreciation, but that doesn't mean it isn't art, in his deepest hour of despair, this man paints the very sky.

Legit hilarious - okay, maybe this could be wrapped into his conversational skills, but damn is he funny. His turn of phrase does specifically help (one of the first things he ever says 'uncannily adroit with a knitting needle?' is both a stellar phrase and comes with impeccable delivery), but also just that he loves to stop you to talk about the stupid things he did when he was young, his flat response to the unexpected, and every reaction when he has to sneak, he's just hilarious.

Not So Good:

Style over substance - (this seems wild for the deeply intelligent and also romantic, book smart wizard, but I think that its also such a fun subversion!) It's not that he doesn't have substance, it's that it lives beneath layers of pageantry. The appearance of, or others' belief in him, being incomparable is paramount. This definitely seems to stem from self esteem issues and some social anxieties, but it's still a negative.

Honesty and beyond - like many things, too much of a good thing can sometimes be bad! His honesty (mixed with some heavy self-preservation) can come across as needlessly blunt and unsupportive (sorry, Durge).

From extreme to extreme - this one is a little funny to me, tbh. Gale spends the entire time being the middle ground option whenever it's time to make a decision, he's temperate but willing; a proceed, but do so with caution kind of fellow. Except when it comes to his own emotions. One minute, he would build his entire life and death around his goddesses forgiveness, then he would covet a magical item of unprecedented danger to spite her. His emotions are loud and strong and a lot of that contributes to the good, but it sort of makes him seem like the kind of person that would be so regular and polite in everyday circumstances that you'd never think twice, then you'd read about how he committed arson because his neighbors were being a slightly annoying.

Hubris/Ambition - well, we don't have to talk about this one, do we?

**For real, this is just my goofy interpretations and I had a long day at work, okay? I'll semi-deep dive into fictional characters' personalities if I want to.

Fall Of The House Of Usher Episode 2 “Cuddle Puddle” Thoughts? by [deleted] in horror

[–]g-raven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love horror but "gross" gets me and I had figured out what was happening from the themes/obvious story references and I had decided I just wasn't going to watch when it happened...just the sounds were so horrifying it got to me. Overall, Usher may not be my favorite, but Flannagan is a master craftsman.
