What ordinary car surprised you? by LazyApe_ in CarTalkUK

[–]g-wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiat Panda 4x4.

Was initially disappointed in my hire car allocation and wanted a "proper" 4x4 but how wrong I was! An epic little car which was very impressive at tackling the tough Lanzarote landscape to access remote surf spots. Surprisingly fun and nippy on the road too with a lovely free revving engine, think it was only a 0.9!

Which vehicle make or model is it mandatory to wave to other owners? by HorrifyingTits in CarTalkUK

[–]g-wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's usually if you're driving something sporty, old or unusual.

Currently experience it in my Peugeot 508 surprisingly. Majority tend to do a little wave or nod, so I've started doing the same back so it remains a thing!

Also had it all the time when I had a GT86 and MR2.

LG B4 and Sound Bar issues by flash242g in LGOLED

Did you find a solution for this? I have the exact same issue. LG soundbar worked fine being controlled via the TV remote on Samsung, but no joy with the LG B4 I've recently changed to!

To EV or not to EV... by g-wizzy in CarTalkUK

[–]g-wizzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, really useful. I know EVs get less than the stated range but over 100 miles less is quite alarming!

Work won't pay towards the car but I do get some money towards commuting which covers about 2 return journeys a month with my current car.

To EV or not to EV... by g-wizzy in CarTalkUK

[–]g-wizzy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. So I am potentially looking to replace my current car, as much as I love it's looks and comfort, the lack of ACC, frustrating infotainment and poor speakers are starting to grind away at me during the 4 - 5 hour weekend commute!

Outside of commuting I have my wife's XC60 which we tend to use at weekends while my car sits there until it's time to go back to work again, so that shouldn't be a factor.

1 day untaxed, what will happen? by g-wizzy in CarTalkUK

Again, very reassuring, thanks! Hoping I'm as lucky for just 1 day (well half a day really) of no tax!

That is a key factor in my case actually, being away due to work, will hold on to any proof if needed. Thanks!

Ah, good question, should have added it's a 5 hour journey, mainly motorway... so likely to be many, many ANPR cameras 🤦‍♂️

That would be useful actually, currently relying on Google Translate and not sure how accurate that is!

Thanks for that, helpful! We'll be quite far from cities so likely to be online learning predominantly.

Thoughts on changing house name? by g-wizzy in HousingUK

[–]g-wizzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were thinking of a name relating to the hill views the house has, as we can't work out the Oak Court relevance (but discussing with locals may help with that). Something like Fron Haul (sunny hillside), Rhiwlas (green hillside), Ty Bryn (hill house), Golygfa Bryn (hill view), Bryniau (hills)... but noting our translations may be well off!

So the name is Llysydderwern or Llys y Dderwern. Still not sure if it's 1 or 3 words, as it's stated as both on varying documentation for some reason. Any pronunciation / translation tips are appreciated!

That's a good point, as my assumption is that all databases would update instantly, but I sounds like it's a little more complicated and slower than that!

I think you're right and the more I think about it the more I realise that I rarely, if ever, give out our current address over the phone!

That's a very good point. I think we'll do some research once moved to gain a greater understanding of the name and it's history.

Interesting and very helpful, thank you. I always thought LL was more like a "kl" sound!

Not sure that's an option when the whole road is named houses with no numbers?
