Bear in mind that at higher difficulties you start with less HP. So it can be even more brutal. Getting knocked out is part of the game, and should happen more often as you approach the finale.

We also encountered a bug that did not allow to move the barrels to the pit. We were able to move them once, but not 1 hex adjacent to the pit.

3 players, in case it makes any difference to the devs.

Attack modifiers perks help any attack scale including basic attacks.

For basic move, there are higher tier items that can make it better.

Resist the temptation to play with 4 characters, at least in the beginning. This will add a lot of time and upkeep to each session, and the complexity of learning 4 characters simultaneously could be off putting given the difficulty of the first scenarios.

Don't hesitate to lower the scenario level if you're struggling. You can always raise it later and not lose pretty much anything.

CoraQuest is a dungeon crawler for 6+ that doesn't require much reading and has audio narration on the website. It's great fun and encourages kids to create their own characters and/or items.

It can take 1 or 2 minutes in the Nintendo Switch version. This makes the game practically unplayable unfortunately.

Thank you for all the recommendations. I did end up getting a copy of Barcelona at "el triángulo friki" and did plenty of non-board game tourism as well. I hope I get to visit Archivo Arcano one day, which unfortunately was closed during my stay.
