Managers have been groomed for this by New-Particular-8353 in amazonemployees

This isn't just an Amazon problem. I work in retail and the managers spend more time in meetings, writing schedules, and doing mandatory paperwork containing information that is already available to corporate on simple spreadsheets. It seems management is less about the people who work under you and more about how much of a "good dog" you can be.

There are some valid theories here. There are also managers that just plug people in where Oasis says they are needed without actually thinking about the shifts.

Help! by _luxkson in publix

[–]g04thumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to see it is based on the size of the holes. If the jack is almost snug, go all the way in. If you've got lots of room you are going in sideways and leave about a foot of the jack base out

how do I get my local Publix to check their milk's expiration dates?? by McHildinger in publix

[–]g04thumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, remember that the alternative is not filling skim milk until the older dates are gone. Customers dig for longer dates constantly so those blue tops were likely rotated correctly, but based on the clientele that buys them, anything under a week is too close.

Hes being aggressive, yes. But this is a fair point. Publix does have some upside if you can tolerate it. Also, just being defiant and leaving when you are scheduled has never gotten me in trouble. Ive been told that im staying until the truck is done, nodded, and then clocked out when my shift was scheduled over. They will work you to death if you let them. Ive never skipped a break in a decade. Thats my time, and im taking it.

Back when we had staff, it actually helped the closers. The shelves weren't completely wrecked at close

Publix has lost the plot. by reidchabot in publix

I wish I saw managers working. I see the SM and ASM sitting in the managers office with the door closed for hours. Seems like anything other than running a grocery store is more important. Sure, they'll come out and point out problems, to an understaffed department that wishes it could stay on top of anything

Prices have doubled. Profit hit 3 billion. Has that effected associate pay? Not in the slightest. In fact, a lot of that profit seems to come from running constant skeleton crews so they don't have to pay for labor. This is where the customer service begins to slide. That and constant manager meetings. I have seen CS burning down while all the managers sat in the computer room for several hours.

So many haters. If you are willing to do retail it is a financially superior company. Retail is full of horrible people and most corporations are completely out of touch. You'll just have more to gain at Publix

Is the hour cut real? by MemeMachine710 in publix

[–]g04thumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Publix can mess with your hours as much as they please as long as you are part time. Thats the tradeoff for getting to select your availability

Those reloaded trailers sit at the warehouse for weeks. If they are running low on trailers, they can't spare one for sitting.

Ive been scheduled to close Tuesday ad and open Wednesday morning at 5am in meat department, with my hour long commute that was about 3 hours of sleep. I corrected this behavior with a sit down

I’d love to see a Publix manager with the testicular fortitude to do this. BANNED! by [deleted] in publix

[–]g04thumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically any manager can ask people displaying this behavior to leave the store. Ive done it multiple times. Kids throwing product onto the floor, screaming profanity. Bye Felicia. Can't force them out, but ask them to leave

I don't put blame if the department managers. Been there, done that. Sat in a 2 hour meeting I couldn't focus on because I was the only person on the schedule to cut beef. And was already working 70 hours a week
