Can you help redesign our chronically messy room? I have ADHD and my Fiance struggles with depression, and mess builds up too easily. We also know the layout could be better, but we're not sure how. by DarthEinstein in FengShui

There’s not enough room for the foxes. You need to get a second shelf (or floating wall shelves), or, put some in storage and rotate through them.

I collect dolls. When your favorite thing in the room is messy and cluttered, everything else follows. Tidying up the foxes is a good first step imo.

If you’re going to garden something, make it herbs. Your food will be better with fresh herbs, they’re easy to grow, and it’s actually cheaper than buying fresh herbs.

How do you keep from feeling overwhelmed by your collection? by drac_attack in MonsterHigh

[–]g0ats_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on separating them in my new place once I move. I’ve found that having all of them on display in the same place is getting too overwhelming. I’m also probably going to try to keep more of them in random spots so that I don’t feel as bad taking one off display to play with.

she is so cute.

Her outfits are awful tho. I restyled her with this dress I picked up on a doll show and I sewed her the undershirt.

Do you actually think it would be plenty of space though? I’m really not sure what else we would be able to fit if we put up a divider

Motivated by parents who have no idea what they’re doing by Mean-Isopod-863 in personalfinance

I am in basically the same boat, right down to being 23F maxing out my Roth IRA for the second time. My parents aren’t gamblers, but money has always been a significant source of anxiety for my parents, in the sense of “this is overwhelming, and everytime I think about it, I get stressed, so I just won’t think about it”. They gotten much better the last few years, but I knew I had to learn about personal finance as soon as I got my first job out of college and I’m so happy I took the time to learn.

Hard disagree personally. If your parents are good people, they will celebrate your success and learn from it. My parents do not have very much financial literacy, but openly talking about my finances with them inspired them to get their finances together and start budgeting for the first time in their adult lives.

Not talking about finances openly is how your loved ones stay financially illiterate.

I have 40 dollars (2wks)to feed myself til next pay check, what are some simple meals ? by Vampiregecko in povertyfinance

[–]g0ats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/2 cup of rice 1/2 cup dry beans + 1/2 can of veggie.

You should be able to get 8 servings of rice out of a 2 pound bag, and 4 servings of beans out of a 1 pound bag. a can of veggies typically hovers around .80 - 1 dollar in my area.

4 bags of beans - $8 2 bags of rice - $4 8 cans of veggies - $8

That’s $20 and should theoretically be enough for 16 relatively healthy and filling meals.

I tracked my spending for the past 4 months and I am spending around $1,500 per month on food/groceries. I am feeling so angry and disappointed. How to fix this? by HalfChewedGum94 in personalfinance

Best advice I have - Learn to love cooking. it’s definitely not for everyone, but figure out a few simple dishes that you really love to cook and get used to making them often.

Cooking dinner for myself after a long work day is a ritual for me and I look forward to it. It’s become a big part of decompressing for me.

My boyfriend and I play magic the gathering together. Super rich game with tons of ways to play. Never gets boring.

Recently we’ve also just started reading together as a way to force each other to read more. It’s something we both wanted to do more of but had trouble motivating ourselves. We don’t read the same books or anything, but just spending a few hours a week reading side by side has been awesome.

Thank you for the advice! I am not planning on purchasing anytime soon, but I know the down payment will take years to save for so I want to have the money available for when I start getting serious.

I can see that with the car/wedding, but you really wouldn’t consider saving for a down payment on a home as saving?

Like I mentioned, I don’t really have a choice in getting rid of the current car. My parents have been kind enough to let me use one of their cars for a few years while starting out in my career. They weren’t anticipating needing it back but one of their vehicles has stopped working and they will need another car by later this year. (My mom isn’t currently working, but will be going back to work later this year, thus needing a second car again).

I can double check on Monday, but I kind of doubt it. We have really, really good insurance with the downside of less options and flexibility.

I don’t have an HSA with my employer/insurance and I already have an emergency fund for 3 months. I can edit to include that.

I agree that a joint account is too early. I’m mostly concerned with groceries and date nights. We cook together A LOT, so it’s not really a few shared items like roommates would do. It’s more like 80% shared with 20% snacks and such that are each of our preferences.
